Why Disney’s Animal Kingdom May Be Mostly Empty This Summer

We love this Disney World park as much as the next person, but we’ve gotta be real — summertime may be one of the WORST times to visit.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is absolutely stunning throughout the year, and we love getting to say hello to some of our favorite animals all throughout the year, but between summer storms and all the construction happening right now, this may be the WORST park to visit this season.

Let’s take a look at wait times from Saturday, June 13th!

Magic Kingdom

To our surprise, TRON Lightcycle / Run hit its highest wait time of only 70 minutes in the middle of the day, which isn’t normal. Multiple attractions did have minor closures during the day, but the most intense were “it’s a small world” and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train with two closures each. You won’t ever find us complaining about low wait times in this park, though, and that’s definitely what yesterday had.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind just beat out Test Track by 5 minutes, hitting a 95 minute wait towards the end of the day. Test Track did close SIX times throughout the day though, with three of those being the first three hours of the park day, so when we think about it, people didn’t have as much time as normal to even get in line to ride.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

It was unfortunately another rough day for Animal Kingdom. Avatar Flight of Passage started the day at 115 minutes and stayed relatively high throughout the majority of the day, likely due to the fact that Kali River Rapids was unexpectedly closed for three hours of the day, and Expedition Everest was closed for FIVE. By the end of the day, though, it seemed many people had left the park for other entertainment elsewhere, because the highest wait time was only 20 minutes.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We saw something interesting happen with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets yesterday. The ride jumped from 50 minutes to 100 minutes in the span of an hour, then proceeded to drop again the hour after. This could potentially mean there was a problem with one or more of the ride vehicles, but with how popular the ride has been, it could also mean that the line just genuinely jumped that high. Just keep an eye on it throughout the day, that’s our advice!
