Vacationing at Walt Disney World can be a magical, fantastical, and very overwhelming experience.
But, Disney memories last for a lifetime, so you want to be sure that you are set up to make the best ones! We’re sharing some of the BEST tips of what to avoid doing at Disney World!
Friends Don’t Let Friends Do THIS At Disney World
Buy a Poncho in the Park
No, Disney World isn’t located in a bubble, free of inclement weather. It’s no secret that year-round — but mostly in Florida summers — you can expect an afternoon drizzle (or downpour).
Once rain starts moving into the area, Disney stores pull out some pretty expensive ponchos that can tempt even the most frugal folks on particularly rainy days. Instead, we recommend checking for the weather ahead of time, and if you’re in rainy season, order a cheap poncho ahead of time. On Amazon, you can even buy a 5-pack for half the cost of just one in Disney.
If your plan for the day involves a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, forgetting to set an alarm can cost you a ride through the galaxy. Rise of the Resistance is an incredibly popular attraction at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. If you’re not interested in making an Individual Lightning Lane purchase for the ride, you may want to get to the parks early for Rope Drop to minimize your chance of an hours-long wait in the Standby line.
Keep in mind, this ride goes down often, so you can always try getting in line at the end of the night for (hopefully) shorter wait times, too.
Forget to Pack Essentials
When you’re spending a day at one (or more) Disney parks, you want to be sure you’ve packed the right stuff. Here’s a quick list — phone charger, sunscreen, good sneakers, and comfy socks. Why you ask…?
Disney has moved a lot of its processes to the My Disney Experience app which can drain your phone battery fast. Between mobile ordering food, mobile checkout, dining reservations, and wait times, your phone will be working hard. There’s nothing worse than the feeling of searching through your bag for a charger when your phone is on 1% just to find that you forgot it. Don’t let that happen to your friend!
Even if the forecast for the day is cloudy, pack sunscreen! Getting burnt on day-one of your Disney vacation (or any other day) can make for a long stay so be smart and pack the sun protection.
And, you’re going to want shoes that were made for walking. Yes, those flip flops are probably really adorable and match your outfit, but there is A LOT of walking involved in a trip to Disney. Your friend will thank you later.
Buy Water in the Parks
Florida is hot, but you don’t have to shell out cash for water at Disney World. One of the best tips that Disney fans will offer is that you can ask for a free cup of water at most Quick Service restaurants.
You’ll save your friend big bucks on particularly sweltering days with this tip! And, if you need more than a small cup, many of the Starbucks locations will dish out complimentary Venti cups of water if you ask!
