8 Closures You Need to Know in Disney World

We’re moving in the right direction, people! After months of construction in EPCOT, Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction and Connections Cafe & Eatery are opening later this year! With so many big projects opening soon and upcoming refurbishments on the horizon, it can be hard to keep them all straight!

It’s springtime in Disney World!

Our weekly refurbishment update fills you in on all the current refurbishments in Disney World! Let’s take a look at everything that will be closed in Disney World from April 11th to April 17th, 2022.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad is located in the Magic Kingdom, with stops all around the park! Currently, the train is unavailable while Disney works on the new TRON roller coaster. The attraction has been closed for several years as Disney’s TRON construction is blocking a portion of the train tracks.

Disney has not shared an opening timeline for TRON: Lightcycle Run, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for updates. Interestingly, Disney teased that the Walt Disney World Railroad may return soon, and we even saw some ride testing on both TRON: Lightcycle Run and the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Refurbishments

Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also closed. The attraction is down for an extended refurbishment and has been closed since early January. Disney stated that the refurbishment is expected to take about 3 months, so we’re hoping that Expedition Everest will return soon.

According to Disney, the closure is expected to last through at least April 2022, though there is no specific opening date yet.

EPCOT Refurbishments

Souk-Al-Magreb

The EPCOT World Showcase is home to a wide variety of countries, including the (beautiful) Morocco pavilion. This pavilion has a small gift shop that’s been closed for a long time, and Souk-Al-Magreb still does not have an official reopening date.

This one is kind of a mystery!

This gift shop was set to open in February of 2022, but Disney quietly extended the closure with no comment on its fate.

Disney World Water Park Refurbishments

Blizzard Beach Waterpark

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is closed for refurbishment. If you’re looking for a little water park fun, you’ll have to visit Disney’s other water park.

The good news is that Typhoon Lagoon is still open. Starting this summer, Disney is bringing back a special After Hours event at Typhoon Lagoon! In the meantime, Disney has not shared a reopening date for Blizzard Beach.

Disney Resorts

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is in the middle of a pretty large construction project. When complete, guests will be able to stay at some brand-new DVC Resort-Studio rooms in the Big Pine Key building!

The Disney World website states that during this time, guests may see and hear active construction, though most hotel amenities will remain available throughout the construction project. The rooms should be complete by late June 2022. Until then, expect a little construction around the resort.
