TWO Pools at a Popular Disney World Hotel Are Closing Next Year for Refurbishments

There are a lot of reasons to love Disney World hotels. They have great theming and decorations, some of the best Disney food can be found at certain hotels, and staying there gets you extra perks like the free Disney transportation to and from the parks.

Another benefit is that most of the Disney World hotels have really fun, themed pools that can help you cool off after a hot day in the parks. But if you’re staying at one Disney World value resort, you might see a hiccup in your big Disney pool plans.

Two of the pools at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort are closing temporarily in 2022 for some refurbishments.

The Flippin’ Fins Pool (located in the Little Mermaid section of this hotel) will be closed from early January 2022 through late February 2022. During its closure, the Big Blue Pool and the Cozy Cone Pool (both located at Art of Animation as well, just in different sections) will be available for guests to use instead.

Once the Flippin’ Fins Pool reopens (in late February 2022), the Cozy Cone Pool in the Cars section of Art of Animation will close for its own refurbishments. It’s expected to be closed through mid-April 2022.

During this time, the Big Blue Pool and Flippin’ Fins Pool will both be open for guests to use.

So if you’re staying at Art of Animation Resort soon, you will still have two pools to choose from, no matter which section you stay in. If the pool in your room’s section is closed, it might just be a longer walk to get to the other ones.

  1. My favorite pool was at the Beach Club Resort, part of the group of Epcot Hotels and near the Boardwalk. It’s been about 30 years since we were there. But it had a waterslide, fun for adults too. And there was a moving current sandy bottom pool. Great ice cream parlor right next to the pool area. Designed like one from the 1950s.

  2. Um, for those of us in the Midwest who wouldn’t even thinking of hitting a pool in January-March, are the resort pools still popular at WDW resorts this time of year? I assume they’re doing this now because they aren’t and general occupancy is lower too, but just curious.

    1. They can be. The weather in Central Florida can vary a lot this time of year. One week, you may have highs in the 60s and the next, it could be mid-80s. My partner and I have lived here for 12 years now and can say that while we don’t use our pool every week, we do use it every month, year round. He uses it more than I do but we both swim year round here.
