Disney’s live entertainment is constantly evolving, but sometimes we long for what once was.

The Disney Parks put on some incredible shows. Those mesmerizing nighttime spectaculars, energetic parades, and innovative stage shows create lasting memories that we take with us forever. While those memories last, the shows themselves usually do not. Their replacements usually live up to the hype, but we’re still sad that some of our favorite Disney Parks shows are long gone.
We polled our AllEars team and asked, “What piece of Disney Parks live entertainment do you miss the most?” We figure a lot of Disney fans agree with our picks…

Up first is Move It Shake It Mousekedance It! This dance party debuted in early 2019 in front of Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom. It featured live music and characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Chip n’ Dale, Pluto, Clarabelle, and more.

The parade featured five brightly colored floats and the popular “It’s a Good Time” song, as well. This show is listed as “temporarily unavailable” on the Disney World website, but we haven’t seen it since the pandemic closure.

Next up is the EPCOT duo of Harmonious and Illuminations! Illuminations: Reflections of Earth ran for nearly 20 years and was a 13-minute nighttime spectacular on and above World Showcase Lagoon. Featuring the Earth Globe — the world’s first spherical video display system, wrapped in 15,000 LEDs — this show displayed a full color spectrum of lasers, including four custom Disney colors (lagoon blue, mint green, pumpkin orange, and lavender). It also included walls of flames and a giant torch that climbed 40 feet above World Showcase Lagoon.

Harmonious debuted in 2021 and was “one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for a Disney Park.” It featured incredible pyrotechnics, lasers, LED screens, lights, and moving fountains.

This show reimagined Disney classics by giving them a multicultural twist — featuring “more than a dozen languages by a diverse group of 240 artists from around the world.” It was a really fantastic nighttime spectacular, but a bit divisive due to the eyesore barges that sat out in the lagoon during the day. It was replaced by Luminous in 2023.

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we still miss TARZAN ROCKS! — a live rock-musical stage show that ran from 1999 to 2006. Held in the Theater of the Wild, this show featured acrobats, a live rock band, and in-line skating monkeys set to Phil Collins’ Tarzan soundtrack. It was ultimately replaced by Finding Nemo: The Musical.

Staying at Animal Kingdom, we still miss Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade — which ran from 2001 to 2014. This daily parade was themed after a safari expedition and featured Disney characters in decorated jeeps alongside massive animal puppets.

The parade looped around Discovery Island and featured characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto in vehicles instead of traditional floats. It would also get holiday overlays each winter beginning in 2004. The parade was retired to clear space for Pandora – The World of Avatar.

Over on the West Coast, we can’t help but miss The Main Street Electrical Parade! Disneyland’s premier nighttime parade has played at both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure and has been a beloved experience since 1972. It featured illuminated storytelling via over 600,000 electronically controlled LED lights and floats synchronized to an electronic “Baroque Hoedown” soundtrack.

This parade occasionally returns to the resort, but was ultimately replaced by its spiritual successor — Paint the Night — which in itself only returns for special occasions like Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration.
