If you’re headed to the park any time soon, you should also know that a classic activity has changed. Here’s a quick reminder about how pin trading has changed in Disneyland!

In case you missed it, there were some BIG changes to pin trading over at Disneyland Resort. In case you’re new to the theme parks or pin trading, it is a HUGELY popular activity that allows guests to talk and trade with Cast Members, pin boards, and other guests.

Pin Trading is really its own subculture in the theme parks. Collecting is something people feel a strong passion for, and people take trading VERY seriously. In Disneyland, they have recently updated the rules, and it’s caused quite a conversation.

Pin Trading crowds in Disneyland

In the past, Disneyland had changed to only allowing personal pin trading in a dedicated area near Westward Ho Trading Company in Disneyland Park. Personal pin trading is when guests trade with other guests, and this typically includes huge binders filled with Disney pins. Once they switched to the dedicated area, those who brought big binders full of pins could meet up each day until 3 PM and trade with the other pin traders.

This is where the recent change comes in! Disney has updated its website to read “Benches or any other structures for the display of pins will not be permitted. Benches are for seating purposes only.” This is a BIG change if you were into personal pin trading. Oftentimes, guests would have binders spread along benches, tables, and more, so other pin traders could easily flip through their binders.

This is Disneyland’s way of going back to no personal pin trading in the theme park (at a large level). You can still trade with Cast Members and pin boards without problems. The rules officially kick in on May 22nd, according to Cast Members we spoke with in the park.

Ahead of the formal change, pin traders wasted no time in heading to the parks to trade. The crowds were massive in early May, and Cast Members were letting people get those last few major trades in. We expect this area to stay busy until the changes kick in. So right now, pin trading remains largely unchanged, but that will change on the 22nd!

SO many people!

This doesn’t mean pin trading is over! We expect that fans will find locations in Downton Disney to continue their beloved tradition. If you don’t know already, there are a few rules you need to keep in mind before trading in the parks. They must be official Disney pins, you need to ask before trading, pins must be in good condition, and you can only trade two pins per Cast Member or trading board per day.

We’re eager to see how Disney will crack down on the big pin binders once the rules go into effect over the next few days. Pinfolios, lanyards, and other small ways to carry your pins should be fine in the parks.

We’ve been tracking these changes, but reminders never hurt! As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Disney reminders, updates, and more.
