There’s a 99.5% Chance You’ll Share Your Disney World Hotel Room With Bugs

When staying at a Walt Disney World hotel – or any hotel really – there are certain things one NEVER wants to see or deal with.

Recently, we took to our Facebook page to ask readers, “What’s a lesson you had to learn the hard way about staying at a Disney World hotel?” We received hundreds of answers, some of which were operational notes, some nitpicks, and some we really wish we could bleach from our brains.

Let’s begin with reader Eric, who was one of several who spoke about the relatively early closure times of hotel eateries, writing, “Have a case of water and some snacks delivered (DoorDash, Amazon, Instacart, etc.) to your hotel. You’ll be sorry when you get back to your room at 11:00 PM and need a snack and drink.”

Reader Karen shared a similar lament about the pool hours, writing, “What we learned the hard way: if you’re planning on taking a quick dip after all day in the parks, make sure you know the pool hours. On the plus side: having a room near the pool makes a quick swim possible (even when you only have five minutes until the pool closes).”

Port Orleans

Reader Danel spoke about the *ahem* spread-out nature of the Art of Animation Resort, writing, “The Little Mermaid rooms at Art of Animation are actually at Caribbean Beach Resort.”

Of course, the reason the Mermaid buildings seem so far from the rest of Art of Animation is that they were first built as part of the second unbuilt half of Pop Century – The Legendary Years – before being retrofitted to be part of the newly constructed Art of Animation.

Several readers spoke about how much they could hear in their Disney hotel rooms, with Robbie writing, “Always request a room on the top floor so you don’t get people who wear cinderblock shoes walking above you,” while Steven added, “The adjoining rooms can hear your bathroom noises”, which is clearly information we’re all overjoyed to know.

Readers Christine and Neda lamented some of the amenities missing from Disney World hotel rooms, with the former writing, “It’s not a fridge but a beverage cooler. The half gallon of milk we bought at the resort gift shop spoiled before we drank it all,” and the latter adding, “They don’t have the typical toiletries normal hotels do if you’ve forgotten something at home.”

Beverage Cooler

And then there’s the bugs. SEVERAL readers brought up bugs, including Tina, who shared, “When staying at either Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter, remember to apply anti-bug bite stuff in the evenings and when using the river boats to DS. I love both resorts, but after being bitten on the first evening, I slathered on the anti-bite as those bugs have teeth!”

Of course, as reader Megan added, “Florida hotels have bugs. Especially if you’re in a resort that has exterior entries. Don’t panic.” That’s certainly one way to cope with it.

… not those kind of bugs.

While Walt Disney World hotels often provide a magical experience, things aren’t always perfect. If you’re interested in sharing your thoughts on this, or any other Disney or travel-related topic, follow us on the AllEars Facebook to join in on the next conversation!
