Hurricane season will be arriving soon and run from June 1st through November 30th. That means if you’re planning a trip to Florida, or more specifically, to Universal Orlando, you may have to plan for severe weather that could potentially affect your trip.

With that being said, if you need to change your plans due to a hurricane or tropical storm, Universal Orlando does have a severe weather policy that you’ll need to know about. We’re going to outline that policy so you’re aware of all the details.
The first thing you need to know is that this policy is ONLY for a situation when a hurricane or tropical storm warning is issued for the Orlando area within seven days of your arrival day for your trip. With that being said, you can contact Universal at 800-711-0080 to change or cancel your trip without having to pay any fees for doing so. This applies to any Universal Orlando vacation package, hotel stay, and theme park tickets booked directly through Universal.

However, if you also purchased airline tickets as part of your Universal Orlando vacation package, you may still have to pay cancellation and change fees to those airlines. You may need to contact the airline to find out what its policy is.
If you purchased your Universal vacation package, room, or tickets through a third-party supplier, you’ll need to contact them directly. Pro tip: find out what that agency’s hurricane policy is before booking, or just book directly through Universal Orlando or a Universal Orlando-approved travel agent.

This severe weather policy doesn’t apply to select events or dining experiences. This also doesn’t apply to group bookings: for those, you’ll need to contact the group planner. The severe weather policy also does not apply if you booked your Universal trip after the hurricane or storm warning has been issued.
If you choose to reschedule your trip, you may have to pay more for it. Universal does not guarantee that you’ll end up with the same accommodations or the same prices for rescheduled trips.

If you used the Uplift option to pay for your trip, which lets you finance your travel, you will not be charged interest for a canceled vacation during a hurricane or tropical storm warning.

As they say, to be forewarned is forearmed, so if you’re visiting Universal Orlando during hurricane season, understanding this policy could save you a lot of headache should a hurricane be heading towards Orlando during your trip.
