Disney World Rides That Never Have a Long Wait

As much as we love seeing characters and shows at Disney World, we would venture a guess that a lot of people are there for the rides!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Across the four theme parks and two water parks, there are dozens of rides for guests of all ages, from high-speed rollercoasters to classics like Dumbo the Flying Elephant and “it’s a small world.” If you want to experience the most popular rides in the parks, you’ll likely be waiting in line for a large portion of the day. But, if lines aren’t really your thing, don’t worry — there are still several great rides to check out that usually don’t have oppressive wait times!

Magic Kingdom

Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid

Let’s kick things off by a visit to Fantasyland to see Ariel and all her under the sea friends! This ride is fun because it tells a well-known story with great songs and colorful animatronics. There’s no height requirement or thrilling element, and you likely won’t have to wait any more than half an hour unless it’s a particularly busy day.

Mad Tea Party

We know, not everyone wants to spin in a circle at top speed until they feel like they’re going to lose their lunch, but if you do, then Mad Tea Party hardly ever has a long line! There’s just something so classic Disney about spinning in a teacup, and the ride and line are short enough that you’ll be able to fit this one right into your schedule. There isn’t really a reason to skip it…unless you get motion sickness easily!

The Barnstormer

In the back corner of Storybook Circus, you’ll find the perfect coaster for your kids — The Barnstormer. It’s a short ride with just enough thrill to excite younger guests and many days, it’s a walk-on. Plus, if you head back in that direction, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the construction for the new Tron coaster!

Dumbo the Flying Elephant/Magic Carpets of Aladdin

We put these two together on the list because they’re very similar ride systems. The original spinner ride, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, is right next door to The Barnstormer, while Magic Carpets of Aladdin is located in the middle of Adventureland. The rides are pretty straightforward (you spin slowly in a circle), but as you go up in the air, you can get some pretty great views of the park!

EPCOT

The Seas with Nemo & Friends

Jumping over to EPCOT, let’s first make a stop at The Seas with Nemo & Friends. This omnimover ride is consistently loading, so you likely won’t have to wait very long to board. It tells the story of the hit Pixar film, Finding Nemo, and at the end, you’ll get to explore EPCOT’s SeaBase — full of hundreds of fish, plus dolphins, sharks, and manatees!

Journey Into Imagination with Figment

Also on this side of the park is Journey Into Imagination with Figment at the Imagination Pavilion. The ride has been through many changes over the years, but it’s still home to the lovable purple dragon, Figment. Kids will likely enjoy this journey through the five senses (with song!) and you likely won’t be waiting long to board, if at all.

Living with the Land

Next door at the Land Pavilion, Living with the Land is the perfect ride to hop on when you want to take a moment and relax. You’ll explore the greenhouses of EPCOT in a slow-moving boat ride and you’ll probably learn things about agriculture that you didn’t know before. Many days, it’s not more than a 10-minute wait, and then you get to sit down for 15 minutes — that sounds like a fair trade to us!

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros

And our last ride at EPCOT with short wait times comes with a special condition. Gran Fiesta Tour is located inside the Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase, and it’s usually a really short wait…IF you can get inside the pavilion. With limited capacities in the parks, there’s sometimes a long wait to get into the Mexico pyramid, which means that you may have to wait in two lines for the ride.

Hollywood Studios

Alien Swirling Saucers

At Hollywood Studios, both of our chosen rides are found in Toy Story Land. The first is Alien Swirling Saucers. This ride is similar to Mad Tea Party, except instead of being spun around, you’re slinging from left to right as the ride vehicle moves in a circle. The wait time isn’t always a walk-on, but when compared to other rides in Hollywood Studios, it’s significantly shorter!

Toy Story Mania

Across the walkway, you’ll find Toy Story Mania, the popular carnival ride/game where you can score points and compete with your family members. While this ride is very popular, it also has a fairly quick loading process. Even if you notice a long line, it’ll likely move along faster than you’d expect and you’ll be on the ride in no time!

Animal Kingdom

TriceraTop Spin

And last but not least, let’s head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here, many of the rides are thrill rides and heavy hitters, but there’s one that you can consistently count on to have a short wait — TriceraTop Spin. This ride functions the same as Dumbo and Magic Carpets, but if you liked those first two, then you can do it all over again at this park!

TriceraTop Spin

There you have it, a list of several rides to check out when you’re really not feeling like waiting in long lines! Keep in mind that wait times will fluctuate with crowd levels and other factors like unexpected closures, so you’re not guaranteed to have 5-minute waits on these rides all the time.

  1. I feel like some of these attractions have long waits. I’ve seen waits for a decent number of these rides get up to 45-60 minutes, now this is during the holidays.
