No matter which way you slice it, Disney World can be very crowded!
There are some times of year where it’s more crowded than others, like holidays, and on days where something special is happening (like a ride opening or an anniversary), but you’ll encounter crowds pretty much any day you visit. Unfortunately, there are some areas of the parks that get more crowded than others. We’re breaking down the areas around Disney World where you’re most likely to see bottlenecks, and some walkways you can use to avoid them.
Adventureland — Magic Kingdom
One of the places in the Magic Kingdom with the most crowding is Adventureland. Whether this is because it’s the first land on the left when you enter the park, or people just like spending a lot of time there, it almost always has lots of people.
One of the worst chokepoints is the area by the Magic Carpets of Aladdin because the ride kind of poses an obstacle in the middle of the land. That’s not all though, Adventureland is home to some of the more popular Magic Kingdom rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise, which draws a lot of people. To avoid crowds, you can use one of two shortcuts into Frontierland. The first shortcut is over by Swiss Family Treehouse, right next to Island Supply by Sunglass Hut and is actually where you’ll also find some bathrooms.
You can use that walkway to take a shortcut right into Frontierland. Another walkway is located over by Aloha Isle, across from the Magic Carpets of Aladdin.
Use that walkway, and you’ll be deposited next to Frontier Mercantile in Frontierland.
Frontierland — Magic Kingdom
Alright, so you’ve used one of the passageways from Adventureland and now you’re in Frontierland — but it’s crowded too! Never fear, we’ve got another walkway for you to use here, also. Next to the river, there is a boardwalk that starts across from the entrance to Liberty Tree Tavern. You can use that boardwalk to walk all the way down to Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
However, this isn’t always certain. Some of the character cavalcades and the Festival of Fantasy parade come through Frontierland, making this boardwalk the only way guests can move around the land until the parade is over, so it’ll be crowded during those times.
Cinderella Castle — Magic Kingdom
Walking through Cinderella Castle to get through Fantasyland is a beautiful experience because you can see tile mosaics that tell the story of Cinderella, but it can also get very crowded.
If you’re trying to get to Fantasyland, but want to avoid the crowds, we recommend heading to the left of Cinderella Castle, over in the direction of Liberty Square. There is a narrow path that goes along the left side of the castle that will deposit you in Fantasyland without having to battle through swarms of people.
Entrance to World Showcase — EPCOT
Look, EPCOT is kind of a mess right now. It’s undergoing a massive transformation and because of that, there’s a lot of construction walls, so you don’t have a lot of options when it comes to alternate routes. One area that does get crowded is the entrance to World Showcase because people are deciding which direction they want to go around World Showcase (are you Team Right or Team Left?).
One way you can avoid the crowds at the entrance is to take an alternate route across the water that isn’t the main walkway. If you’re heading straight back toward World Showcase, go to the left and use the walkway that goes by the building that used to house the EPCOT Experience, the Odyssey Center.
This will put you near the Mexico pavilion, so if you’re someone who likes to head to Canada first, we wouldn’t recommend taking this path.
Galaxy’s Edge Entrance — Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The entrance to Galaxy’s Edge can be very crowded and busy. There are only two ways in and out of the area, so you don’t have a ton of options when it comes to Batuu. If you’re trying to avoid some crowds, entering Batuu using the entrance at Toy Story Land can cut down on the crowds a little bit.
However, one caveat with this, is that if you enter via Toy Story Land, you miss out on the experience of entering Galaxy’s Edge through the other, more immersive entrance.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway — Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The area around Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can get pretty crowded, especially if the line is extended past the queue.
To avoid these lines, maneuver either to the right or the left so you’re not walking right through the center.
Entrance and Exit of Pandora — Animal Kingdom
Given the popularity of the area, the main entrance and exit of Pandora at Animal Kingdom can get pretty full of people. To avoid these crowds, you can take an alternate path out of Pandora that will connect you to Africa.
Sometimes an extended queue for Flight of Passage goes out into this area, but for the most part this bridge is a quiet and scenic walk straight to the Africa area. If you’re not heading to Africa or this area of the park, we would recommend still using the main thoroughfare in and out of Pandora.
World of Disney Entrance — Disney Springs
When it comes to Disney Springs, one of the biggest bottlenecks is nearby the entrance to World of Disney. This is the biggest Disney store there and attracts a lot of guests.
If you’re just trying to get past World of Disney, we recommend heading across he water toward Rainforest Cafe to the other side of Disney Springs and avoiding the crowds that way.
And those are just a few of the most crowded areas around Disney World and what you can do to avoid them! If you’re heading to Disney World, it’s best to be prepared for crowds. Summertime is one of the busier times, and with the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, crowds are likely here to stay.
If you’re wanting to avoid rides, the best times to hit some rides is later in the evenings, based on these wait times. Make sure to stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney World news!
