Heading to Disney World in September? It Might Be Tough to Find a Flight

We’ve got another important update for anyone with travel plans coming up soon.

Orlando International Airport

Recently, airline passengers have run into a number of interruptions to their flight plans, including lots of delays and cancellations. And one major airline has now cut way back on the number of flights they’re offering this September.

Orlando Business Journal reported that American Airlines has trimmed about 7,000 flights from its September schedule since June 20th. The data shows that American Airlines originally had  148,766 flights scheduled in September before cutting the total to 141,747. That means a decrease of about 770,000 scheduled seats for the month.

This cut translates to about a 5% reduction in American Airlines’ domestic flights for the month of September. And they aren’t alone in making cuts — Delta Airlines recently reduced their flights for the month by 2.6%, and United Airlines saw a reduction of 2.8%.

The CEO of American Airlines, Robert Isom, said the company is taking “proactive steps to build additional buffer into our schedule for the rest of the year.” In the same call, Isom also said that a variety of factors including the supply chain, aircraft manufacturers, and pilot supply will determine when the company can get back to full capacity.

As far as an expected timeline for full capacity to return, Isom said, “From a regional perspective, it’s just going to take a little bit longer than that — maybe two or three years — to kind of get the supply chain for pilots back to where we need it to be.”
