5 Disney World Mysteries I’ve Had to Investigate Because of My Job

At this point, the AllEars team is practically a living encyclopedia of Disney information. We know the history of the parks, the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running a theme park, and the location of TONS of hidden Mickeys. 

Part of the job also requires us to venture down a few rabbit holes from time to time — our investigating skills are next-level! After years of searching, learning, and asking TONS of questions, we’ve come up with a list of some of our favorite Disney World mysteries we’ve had to solve. Put on your detective hats, people!

The Case of the Missing Characters

From time to time, Disney World’s animatronics take a little vacation from their (rather monotonous) jobs. Being the thorough reporters we are, we’ve investigated the story to find out what happened to the famous Sonny Eclipse, the tough guy Hondo Ohnaka, and even the giant Na’vi animatronic.

Once, we found ourselves riding the Gran Fiesta Tour in EPCOT over and over again for WEEKS while the Donald Duck animatronic was missing. But want to know the best part of that story? Donald was replaced by a PLANT!

Yep, they stuck a plant with a sombrero right on stage while Donald was away. If that’s not the best solution to an unfortunate problem, we don’t know what could possibly top the infamous plant Donald.

Clearly, we have the best job ever, because where else can you count a ride on the Gran Fiesta Tour as “work”?

Hey, What Happened to That Attraction?!

Remember how we told you that we’re basically a living encyclopedia? Well, collectively, the AllEars team has a pretty good memory of the inside of Disney World’s attractions. We notice, for instance, when Disney changes the Carousel of Progress, and we know that the little newsboy on Spaceship Earth used to face the audience.

We’ve also taken the boat to Tom Sawyer Island a few times to investigate the disappearance of the Barrel Bridge! You name it; we’ve probably covered it.

The AllEars team knows a LOT about the mysterious Society of Explorers and Adventurers. We know alllll the lore behind this club of explorers, and we’ve been down a deep rabbit hole to see just how far the story goes.

The Bear Claw Saga

Sometimes, Disney World treats randomly disappear, then reappear, then disappear again. It can be kind of a roller coaster. For example, our investigation into the disappearance of Wendell’s Bear Claw in Magic Kingdom led us all the way to Wendell himself!

The case of the missing Bear Claw treat lasted for several weeks, and truthfully, we were on the edge of our seats the entire time as we waited for the situation to reach a conclusion.

Easter Eggs

Of course, any good investigator knows the best answers come straight from the source! We talk to Disney World Cast Members allll the time to learn about new Hidden Mickeys, nods to old rides, and other secret Easter eggs hidden around the parks and resorts.

If Jeopardy ever has a “Disney Easter egg” category, we will DOMINATE the field.
