We’re seriously afraid of a few things in Disney World.

Disney World vacations aren’t always peachy, and they can be rather intimidating. We all want our vacations to go perfectly, and when they don’t, it’s easy to jump into “the trip is ruined” territory. So today, we’re breaking down the top Disney World fears nobody’s talking about.
The $10,000 Nightmare
These days, Disney World is so expensive that it’s not unreasonable for a family of four to drop a cool $10K on a weeklong trip. That’s a LOT of money. And when you’re spending that kind of dough (and taking time off of work), it creates intense pressure to make sure that you get the maximum value out of every moment.

You push yourselves too much physically because every hour you’re not in the park “costs” money. You try your best to maximize every lightning lane, every dining reservation, and every moment of the day to the point that you’re not actually relaxing and enjoying your trip. The real nightmare is the realization that you’ve turned your family vacation into a high-stakes business transaction.

The best way to mitigate this? RELAX. You have to go into a Disney World trip knowing that everything probably won’t go according to plan. Instead of trying to maximize your time, maximize your enjoyment. Remember that the real reason you’re visiting is to spend time with your loved ones in a fun place. It’s a mindset shift!
How to Maximize Discounts in Disney World
The Bloodcurdling Scream
This one is every parent’s big fear — losing a child in a public space. When the parks are absolutely packed, and you’re navigating a busy gift shop or the post-fireworks crowds, it can be easy to get separated from your family. And that causes immediate panic.

We’ve been in the parks before and heard the bloodcurdling scream of a mother looking for her child. It’s scary! Thankfully, Disney Cast Members are well-trained to handle a situation like this and are experts at getting children reunited with their families ASAP. If you find yourself in this situation, speak to the nearest Cast Member, and they’ll get in contact with a leader.

Communication happens fast, and soon, you’ll have people at your side and security on the hunt for your kiddo. It’s also a good idea to tell your children some safety tips before you hit the parks — remind them to look for someone with a nametag if they get lost!
37 Disturbing Things About Disney World
The Medical Mirage
At this point, many people have heard the myth that “nobody dies in Disney World.” While it’s true that Disney prefers to keep things happy and cheerful for guests in the parks, the EMTs and paramedics who service Disney World parks will certainly not wait to give you medically necessary care.

If you collapse in the parks, then they’ll make sure to take care of you right there — you don’t have to wait for them to take you backstage if it’s truly an emergency. In those cases, they’ll get a human wall of Cast Members nearby to give the injured guest some privacy. So don’t worry that you’ll have subpar medical care in Disney World simply for the sake of keeping the parks magical.

The Predator Perimeter
While Disney World is a popular tourist destination these days, it was originally built on swampland. Much of the property is still home to wildlife and swampland, and that means there are some scary critters in the area. Past encounters with wildlife have caused Disney to crack down on safety measures for guests.

If you’re near a large body of water in Disney World, you’ll likely find it lined with large rocks or protective fencing. Signage will indicate the presence of creatures like alligators and snakes, encouraging guests to exercise caution in the area. If you see these creatures, don’t hesitate to flag down a Cast Member. Disney World has a contract with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to remove any wildlife that could be dangerous.

This is another one where it’s a good idea to go over safety tips before you arrive. Remind your kids not to get too close to large bodies of water and not to touch or feed any wildlife they come across. (Yes, folks, that includes the birds and squirrels in the parks!)

The “Pricing Out” Extinction
Perhaps the biggest fear people have in Disney World these days isn’t something tangible; it’s the idea of not being able to justify going anymore. Some folks who’ve been dedicated fans for decades are getting priced out.

And this inflation can create a tense environment in the parks as well. Because everyone is trying to get the best value out of their park day, guests can be aggressive. Suddenly, a ride closure or a weather problem becomes a reason to lash out at Cast Members because you’re not “getting what you paid for.” Remember friends, it’s never okay to yell at Cast Members — they’re just doing their jobs!

The Truth About Why Disney World Keeps Getting More Expensive
The Dark Stall
Ever been casually enjoying a ride in Disney World when all of a sudden it comes to a halt? Usually, it’s not so bad. But if you’re sitting in a creepy spot on a dark ride, it can be a little eerie.

It can be nerve-wracking to not know how long you’ll be stuck. While some fans dream of being evacuated from the Haunted Mansion, others are terrified of being trapped with the murderous bride in the attic. But don’t worry — if the ride is truly stopped, Cast Members will be on their way soon to assist you!

Remember, if a ride vehicle stops, the most important thing to do is STAY SEATED. You’re secure in the seat for your safety, and security will be watching the cameras to make sure you’re okay.

The Transportation Trap
Disney World may have multiple modes of transportation that typically work well, but when crowds, heavy traffic, or one leg of transportation is unavailable, getting trapped somewhere is a nightmare. If the Skyliner or Monorail goes down, the buses and boats can get backed up.

Finding yourself waiting an hour to board a bus is not usually the way you like to end your park day, and that’s often what happens if you’re leaving Magic Kingdom or EPCOT post-fireworks as well.

If you’re stuck after a long day at Magic Kingdom, it might be beneficial to walk back to the Transportation & Ticket Center via the Grand Floridian walkway. It’s not a short walk, but it can be faster than waiting in a stalled line.

The Weather Reality
One fear that a lot of frequent Disney visitors have is a weather shutdown. Florida may be known as the “Sunshine State,” but it rains pretty frequently, particularly in the summer. If there is lightning nearby, Disney will shut down all outdoor rides and entertainment.

Then, add in the risks of visiting during hurricane season, and you might be looking at a full-park shutdown if a storm rolls through. Often, you’ll find visitors religiously checking the weather leading up to their trip, and it’s not a bad idea.

If you’re visiting when it’s likely to rain, make sure to pack a poncho or umbrella in your park bag. That way, if the weather changes, you can throw on your rain gear and keep trucking. Rain often happens in the afternoon, so knock out those outdoor attractions early in the day if you can.

Your Phone Dying Midday
With so many important features living on your cell phone nowadays, it’s a real fear that your phone could die in the middle of the park day, whether you charged it before arriving or not. The My Disney Experience app is your lifeline to wait times, Mobile Order, dining reservations, Lightning Lanes, and more. And that thing EATS phone battery for breakfast.

If your phone dies, it could present some real problems in navigating your vacation. Thankfully, there are FuelRod stations around Disney World. We recommend bringing your own portable phone charger, but if you forget to do that, there’s a paid solution.

The Hangover
The final and perhaps most lingering fear of a Disney vacation happens after you’ve already left the “bubble.” It’s the Post-Trip Credit Card Hangover. Alas, looking at the bill after you went a little ham on vacation can be incredibly daunting.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here at AllEars, we’re experts in doing Disney World on a budget, and we’ve got lots of money-saving tips to help you avoid the post-trip financial depression.
There are plenty of fears you may encounter in Disney World, but it’s also a place of a whole lot of magic. So if any of these things scare you, take our advice in stride and go forth to enjoy your trip!
