Book Directly With United Airlines

One of our “golden rules” when it comes to booking a flight is to book directly with the airline. While other travel sites might save you a bit of cash, you could be missing out on perks by not booking directly through United.

Booking directly does not mean you’ll miss out on deals, nor does it mean you won’t find the cheapest rate possible. Often, you’ll find some great exclusive promotions. Additionally, you’ll get direct access to customer support, which could be massive if you need to make flight adjustments or cancellations.

Other perks include collecting bonus miles, which you definitely don’t want to miss out on if you fly with the airline frequently.

There Are Armrest Rules

United has settled an armrest controversy. Claiming which armrest is yours is an embarrassing battle, so United Airlines settled the debate.

Flight attendants have told passengers that each person is entitled to only one armrest — so use the armrest away from the aisle. The idea is to make sure you’re not leaving elbows vulnerable to people walking up and down the cabin. The last thing you want is a drink cart slamming into your arm.

Avoid Reclining When You Can

United is a pretty standard airline, which means it’s not designed for a luxury experience. So if you recline your seat, you could be cutting into someone’s space.

We suggest that you try to avoid reclining on shorter flights or during meal times, as it will interfere with the person behind you. If you need to recline, do so slowly, so the person behind you has time to react and adjust.

Marriott-United Bonvoy Rewards

We already mentioned racking up points, and United offers a rewards system in the form of a Marriott Bonvoy and United MileagePlus merger.

You can link these accounts and unlock extra perks and rewards. Once linked, you can earn bonus points and miles with each program that could even lead to free flights and hotel stays, as well as upgrades you can work towards.
