The CHEAPEST Day at Walt Disney World

Okay, let’s be honest here: a Walt Disney World vacation is expensive!

We’ll give it to you straight — Disney World ain’t cheap!

We definitely understand that, but we love the parks, and we want to keep going back over and over again — and we know many of you feel the same way! How do you ‘go home’ when you’re on a budget?

Today, we’re sharing our tips for how to have the cheapest day at Disney World!

Stay Off-Site

GASP! I know, we went there right out the gate. To die-hard Disney fans, suggesting an off-site stay can be slightly controversial, but it could be worth it if it helps you save lots of bucks!

There are tons of great choices in the Disney Springs area of the Walt Disney World Resort, and many of them have the same perks as Disney-owned resort hotels. Besides that, you’ll likely be able to find a hotel or Airbnb for really cheap even further off-site. When you’re calculating your costs, make sure to factor in gas/transportation and parking fees to ensure that you’re saving money!

Shop the Special Offers Tab

There’s a very important place on the Walt Disney World website that you NEED to check out when planning your trip — the Special Offers tab! This page contains a list of all the current discounts and deals on Disney Resorts and tickets, and you could save hundreds or thousands by making use of these offers.

If you’re intent on staying on-site, make sure to continuously check this page, even after you’ve booked. If a new deal is added after you’ve already booked your trip, you may be able to call Disney and have it added to your current package!

Bring Your Own Food

Guests are allowed to bring their own food and beverages into the parks, which can be very helpful if you’re trying to save money! You don’t have to eat pricey Disney food for every meal — you can make your own picnic-style lunch in the parks if you want to. Even though you may want to, you don’t HAVE to buy those snacks in the parks!

If trying out a few Disney World restaurants is on your to-do list, then we recommend skipping the Table Service spots to save a few dollars. You can still find delicious eats at Disney’s Quick Service dining locations…just so long as you know where to look! Also, adults are welcome to order off the kids’ menus at these “fast food” places, which are usually a few dollars cheaper.

There are some amazing eats at Flame Tree Barbecue in Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Also make sure to bring your own refillable water bottles! There are bottle refill stations in the parks, and you can pick up free cups of ice water at Quick Service restaurants and some snack stands. Don’t waste money buying bottled drinks in the parks!

Hydrate — it’s important!

Come Prepared

When packing for your trip, make sure to buy all the things that you may need for the parks ahead of time. Bring your own ponchos, medicine, bandages, water bottles, snacks, and anything else that you may need in an unexpected situation.

Prepare yourself in case of rain.

Many of these things are a LOT more expensive once you arrive at Disney World property, so buy them ahead of time at your local store. You don’t want to pay a premium if you find yourself in a situation where you need this stuff!

You don’t want to find yourself buying overpriced first aid.

Make Use of Discounts and Specials

You’ll often find specials on meals, merchandise, or other things around the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs. Shop those sales and deals to save!

Look for those little red signs!

Also make use of different discounts if they apply to you! Groups like Annual Passholders, DVC Members, members of the military, AAA members, and Florida Residents may be able to score extra savings that other guests can’t. If you’re not sure if there’s a deal available, don’t be afraid to ask!

Tower of Terror

Don’t Buy More Than You Need

This is perhaps the biggest tip you need to know for your Disney vacation — avoid overspending! For instance, you may not need park tickets for every day of your trip, especially if you’re visiting for a while. You’ll definitely want to take that rest day to recoup, and skipping a day could save you hundreds.

A day at the resort pool could be a lifesaver!

Also don’t splurge for the “extras” that you won’t use. Park Hopper add-ons are a chief example of this. It’s pretty exhausting to park hop and you may not even want to after a long morning. Many guests buy this feature and then don’t even use it!

It can be super tiring to do more than one park in a day!

Another great example is the Disney Dining Plan. When it’s available, many guests purchase it thinking that it’s going to save their family money, when in fact, it’s costing them more than they would spend on food without the plan. Make sure to crunch those numbers!
