Hotels That Make it Worth Staying Outside of Disney World

Walt Disney World offers some incredible resorts, and when you’re choosing a hotel, you’ll want to weigh the pros and cons of staying onsite vs. off property.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

You’ll want to consider price, complimentary transportation to the parks, and the potential appeal of Disney’s on-property theming.

When you’ve considered all the variables, you’ll find there are some great off-property options out there! In fact, we have quite a few that rival Disney’s on-property resorts. Let’s take a look.

Disney Springs Hotels

There are seven hotels on Hotel Plaza Boulevard that are walking distance from Disney Springs. These offer complimentary shuttle service to the Disney parks — plus some resort perks like Early Theme Park Entry!

If you’re driving, the parks are just minutes away. There are also Disney stores in each lobby that sell park tickets and gear. And two Disney Springs-area hotels — Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista and Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort — even have character breakfasts!

Note: The Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista’s character breakfast is temporarily suspended, but we’ll update you when this returns.

With their proximity to Disney property and special perks, these hotels make a great alternative to staying at a Disney resort.

Margaritaville

Margaritaville is a little farther away, but it offers its own immersive experiences. It’s close to Promenade at Sunset Walk, which has shopping, dining, and entertainment; and it’s just minutes away from H2O Live! Water Park.

The resort is a short drive from Disney World. You’ll get free transportation there, too — just remember to reserve your spot at least one hour in advance! And on select nights, you can enjoy live entertainment at the Euphoria lounge at the resort.

While Disney’s on-property resorts have some great perks, it may be worth it to check out an off-property hotel instead! They’re often comparable — or even competitive — in price, and you’ll get some of the same benefits.

  1. The Wyndham was a short walk to Disney Springs complimentary buses to the parks were great never a long wait Rooms comfortable and pool large not crowded you can see Epcot’s night fireworks from requested rooms

  2. I’ve done both, there’s NO COMPARISON to staying on the properties in Epcot! Ease and relaxing travel between parks is paramount! It’s bad enough to waste time standing in long lines in the parks, why waste more time commuting outside the Kingdom?

  3. Wyndham Bonnet Creek is very nice but there are pros and cons. Beautiful pool, very good rates and much more spacious than Disney accommodations, including a full kitchen. However, staying off property means you need a car, you can’t get the Disney Dining plan or enjoy early park entry.
