When planning a Disney World vacation, there are a LOT of things to factor in. One of those is ride closures!

From time to time, Disney schedules certain rides and attractions to close for a refurbishment. Unfortunately, these are constantly being announced and may impact your vacation dates. So if you’re visiting the Disney World theme parks in December 2024, we’ve rounded up all of the ride closures you need to be aware of — and how to pivot your plans!
Luckily, December is a pretty tame month when it comes to closures. There is one new closure (that impacts several attractions) and one ongoing closure that continues through the month. Let’s get into it!
Test Track
First up on this list, you still won’t be able to ride Test Track in December 2024. The popular EPCOT ride has been closed since June of this year and is scheduled to reopen sometime in 2025.

So what is Disney doing to this iconic thrill ride? Well, Disney previously announced that the attraction will celebrate “today’s innovation while highlighting the past, present, and future.” While you walk through the new queue, you will walk through six distinct exhibits to celebrate both the vehicles and the people behind the vehicles.
The ride vehicles seen in the concept art seem to be a nod to World of Motion, AKA the ride Test Track replaced. We’re eager to see how they look in person!

Also, there will be brand-new show scenes to showcase the technological advances. Your joy ride on the reimagined Test Track will begin with scenes that focus on “onboard technology, customization, and personalization.” Afterwards, you will enjoy a ride through the scenic outdoors.

Luckily all of the other attractions in EPCOT are currently scheduled to be open so there’s still plenty to do.
19 Dates to AVOID EPCOT in 2025
Typhoon Lagoon
A water park in December might sound wild…but in Florida, it’s not! On November 4th, Blizzard Beach reopened meaning Disney World’s other water park, Typhoon Lagoon, is now closed and will likely remain this way through December.

In 2023, Typhoon Lagoon reopened after refurbishment on March 19th. It’s likely we’ll see a spring reopening date, but this has not been confirmed by Disney yet. So if you want to go surf the waves or ride Crush ‘n’ Gusher, you’ll have to wait a bit longer.

2025 is a different story…
That’s all for December 2024, but we also wanted to add a warning if you’re visiting Disney World in early 2025! Some major attractions and areas will be closing and we want you to be as informed as possible.
First up, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom is closing on January 6th, 2025. It will be closed until 2026 for “a little bit of new magic.”

Disney has been vague about the changes coming to the ride so far, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as announcements are made!
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Is CLOSING for a Year in Disney World — Here’s What Could Change
That’s not all. The first major closures since Disney confirmed a Tropical Americas-themed land called Pueblo Esperanza would replace DinoLand will happen on January 13th, 2025.

In this phase of closures, TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures will permanently close. Time is running out, so if you’re visiting in December or the first week of January, be sure to check these out for the very last time in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
