A Disney World Cast Member Reveals the Harsh Truth Behind EPCOT Festivals

As a former EPCOT Cast Member, I hate to break it to you, but there’s one thing that EPCOT Festivals aren’t good at — saving you money.

2026 Flower and Garden Festival

If you’ve ever visited EPCOT, you know the park is famous for its nearly year-round lineup of festivals. In fact, four major festivals rotate throughout the year: the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, and EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. Each one brings exclusive food booths, limited-time menus, and unique dishes you can’t get anywhere else in Disney World. It’s a huge draw and for good reason. But there’s a harsh truth that many guests don’t realize until it’s too late.

A lot of visitors go into these festivals with a plan: skip traditional meals and just “snack around the world” at the booths. It sounds like a fun, flexible, and even budget-friendly idea. After all, the portions are smaller… so it should cost less than a full meal, right? Not exactly.

The reality is that those small plates add up fast. Most festival items range anywhere from about $5 to $9 each, and drinks can push that total even higher. If you find yourself ordering just two or three items, which is incredibly easy to do, you’re already spending the same amount (or more) than you would on a standard quick-service meal. And unlike a typical meal, those smaller portions may not even leave you feeling full.

It’s a common trap. You start with one item, then another booth catches your eye, and before you know it, you’ve spent $25+ without even realizing it, and you might still be hungry. So what can you do instead?

First, if you’re using the Disney Dining Plan, festival booths can actually be one of the best uses of your snack credits. Many of the food items qualify as a snack credit, which can stretch the value of your plan significantly. Rather than paying out of pocket, using credits here helps offset the higher cost of the items.

Another smart strategy is to share. Festival portions are perfect for splitting, especially if you’re visiting with family or friends. Instead of everyone ordering their own items, consider picking a few dishes and sharing them. You’ll get to try more flavors without doubling (or tripling) your spending.

Planning ahead also makes a huge difference. Take time to look at menus before your visit and set a rough budget for what you want to try. Knowing which booths and dishes are must-haves can help you avoid impulse purchases that quickly inflate your total. That said, EPCOT festivals aren’t all bad when it comes to food spending — far from it.

A whole feast!

One of the biggest pros is the variety. There’s no better place in Disney World to sample a wide range of unique dishes in one day. From savory bites to creative desserts and specialty drinks, the festivals offer an experience that goes beyond a standard meal. It’s also one of the most fun and interactive ways to explore the park, especially if you enjoy trying new foods.

On the flip side, the biggest con is how quickly the cost can sneak up on you. Without a plan, it’s incredibly easy to overspend. There’s also the risk of wasting money on items you don’t end up liking or can’t finish, which happens more often than you’d think when you’re trying multiple dishes.

At the end of the day, EPCOT festivals are absolutely worth experiencing, but they require a bit more strategy than many guests expect. If you go in thinking you’ll save money by skipping meals, you might be surprised when your total says otherwise. But with a little planning, sharing, and smart use of snack credits, you can enjoy everything the festivals have to offer without blowing your budget.

  1. I think that over the years, we have only 3 times bought an item from a festival booth. My husband says what’s the point in buying small plates that cost more than a QS meal that will at least fill him up. I have succumbed twice, by buying desserts that I felt were reasonably priced. My son bought a drink at the Japanese booth. That’s it from us.

  2. I agree that overspending is very possible during the festivals – to be honest, it’s possible all the time. We’ve just returned from WDW after not visiting for 10 years and were SHOOK at the prices of these so-called small plates. We didn’t buy a single one as a result, brought our own food to the parks and wondered the entire time how people can afford to eat or drink “around the world”!
