Give Us Your Worst Disney World Advice and We’ll Tell You What To Do Instead

So you probably know by now that booking a trip to Disney World involves a big of planning.

Magic Kingdom

There is a LOT to figure out, like deciding on a budget, picking a place to stay, buying tickets, making a packing list, and more. You’ll also likely take advice from people who’ve been before. We thought it might be fun to ask you, our AllEars readers to give us some bad Disney World advice, but we’ll give you some GOOD advice to follow.

Some of you had some great bad advice, too. Jaclyn said, “If first timers or haven’t been in a very long time NOT USING the FREE travel agents from Disney & booking things yourself.”

Of course, she was just joking and went on to highlight all the benefits of using a travel agent. Yes, they’re free and they can help you with EVERY part of your trip and answer any questions you might have — and you’ll probably have a lot if you’ve never been to Disney World.

If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!

Lynett had a funny piece of bad advice: “Quickest way to Hogwart’s Express is the train station in Fantasyland.” Okay, so here’s the thing: we have overheard people asking about the Harry Potter land in Disney World. So in case you didn’t already know, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is NOT in Disney World, but at Universal Orlando.

Hogwarts is not at Disney World

Kerrah offered her own bad advice, “Sleep in, you’re on vacation!” Okay, we get it. We are pretty much rope droppers ourselves, and there is nothing more important than getting up early and getting to the parks BEFORE they open to avoid the longest lines at rides. Plus there’s nothing like being the first to walk into a Disney World park.

Even Aurora wakes up early for Disney World

James offered another comment, “You can do everything in one day.” Yes, there are people who think they can visit Disney World and do everything in one day. Well, here’s the thing: we go to Disney World every day and have been doing it for YEARS and we still haven’t done everything!

You can’t even do everything in one park in one day!

Susan offered, “Just wing it. Disney World is not complicated. You’ll have a great time! Just disregard what everybody else says about planning. They’re all nuts.”

Yes, planning is INTEGRAL to having the Disney World trip you want to have and if you don’t want to do it yourself, we go back to the first point we made: get a travel agent to do it for you. You really need a plan in Disney World or you’ll just end up lost, frustrated, and confused.

You can’t just wing it in Disney World

Rhianna touched upon some bad advice that we felt in our soul: “Buy new shoes for the parks.” Okay, so we HAVE worn new shoes to the parks, and, yes, we regretted it. If you do buy new shoes for your trip, give yourself a chance to break them in. Trust us.

Comfy shoes are a must!

Jerry offered some advice: “Don’t bother drinking water. Your adrenaline will be enough for you to power through.” The reason why we always stress drinking a lot of water is because most people don’t think about it. But Florida heat and humidity will dehydrate you SO FAST and make you miserable, so ALWAYS drink water.

Even Captain Jack Sparrow understands the importance of hydration

Lori’s bad advice was, “Disney restaurants? Yeah, just walk on up day of! They’ll take you right in! Especially CRT. There’s NEVER a wait to eat in the castle!” So this is a CLASSIC newbie mistake and we’ve seen a lot of people thinking they can just waltz into a table service restaurant without a reservation. The truth is you really can’t. Now, you CAN try to join the Mobile Dine Walk-Up Waitlist if you want to get into a restaurant, but that may or may not be available.

You’re not just going to walk up to Cinderella’s Royal Table and get seated

Ed added, “Go for the 4th of July. The heat and humidity aren’t too bad and the lines aren’t all that long then, anyway.” We know a lot of people who ignore this advice and visit Disney World on holidays, and well, it’s not the BEST idea. The crowds are always a LOT to deal with and the lines are long. Plus you’ll pay more for Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass due to demand.

If you MUST go to Disney World on a holiday, you’ll want to prepare yourself for the crowds and have a solid game plan. At the same time, you’ll also want to be flexible.
