When you’re traveling around Disney World, you have lots of different options. There’s ONE, however, that lots of people rank above all others — the Skyliner!

Anyone can take the Disney Skyliner, but it’s recommended to be taken only if you’re heading somewhere along its route, which doesn’t go all around the resort (although, if you love it as much as I do, sometimes you just ride it for fun!). If you’re visiting Disney World for the first time soon, or the first time where you’ll be able to take the Skyliner, DON’T make these rookie mistakes we’ve seen time and time again!
Not Looking at The Map
We’ll be the first ones to admit the Skyliner route can be confusing, so whether you’re riding it for the first time and don’t know which way to go, or you’ve ridden it hundreds of times and still get turned around, it’s worth taking a look at the map every time.

While you can find maps and information inside the My Disney Experience app, as well as outside Skyliner stations, you can also ask a Cast Member near the Skyliner for help if you’re confused on how to get somewhere. It’s also important to keep in mind that the Skyliner cannot, and will not, take you everywhere. The Skyliner only travels to:
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Riviera Resort
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- EPCOT

If you really want to take the Skyliner to get to somewhere else, such as Magic Kingdom, you’ll need to travel to one of the hotels, then take a bus there, or head to EPCOT to then hop on the Monorail to go to the TTC and then to the Magic Kingdom or Resort Monorail. It can take more time, but if you don’t want to drive your own car (or don’t have it with you), Disney transportation is the way to go.
Not Planning Ahead for Rope Drop
If you’ve ever seen the Skyliner line at any of the four hotels at rope drop time, you’ve likely been terrified. They get LONG, people, and we mean REALLY long. The line typically moves relatively quickly, but if you were hoping to stroll up to the Skyliner about 20 minutes before rope drop at DHS or EPCOT and get there on time, we’ve got some bad news for you.

The truth is that these stations get BUSY before rope drop, considering that they often open about an hour before the parks open for the day (be sure to check those times on your My Disney Experience App or the signs near the stations), so if you’re looking to get to rope drop on time, we recommend getting in that line between 45 minutes to an hour before rope drop to make sure you’re there on time.

The same goes for park close, by the way. Just like with all other modes of free transportation around Disney World, lines to leave the park on the Skyliner look VERY intimidating right when the park closes. Again, it moves relatively quickly, but if you want to avoid the mass exodus, get to the Skyliner about 30 minutes before park close, or wander around the park for a little longer after close (in stores, preferably, as some stay open a little later than the park itself) before heading to the Skyliner.
Going on When Heights Aren’t Your Thing
Please trust us when we say that if you’re afraid or weary of heights in any way, the Skyliner is NOT for you. Flying over Disney World is cool for those who are fine with heights, but downright terrifying for those who are fearful of it, and we don’t think you want to be terrified on your Disney World vacation.

Sometimes it seems much faster than the bus, but if you know you’d rather be able to keep your feet closer to the ground, a longer line for the bus will be worth it. We don’t even recommend closing your eyes to pretend you’re not up high, because hearing the wind whistling through the cabin (and if there’s a *little* too much wind, the car will jostle and that sometimes gets scary for me, and I have no issue with heights), not to mention hearing the navigation voice literally telling you what you’re flying over won’t help you trick yourself.

If you want to try the Skyliner out and you’re usually afraid of heights, we recommend taking one of the shortest routes, which would be Caribbean Beach to Pop Century/Art of Animation (or vice versa), or Hollywood Studios to Caribbean Beach (again, or vice versa). Don’t suffer through an ENTIRE trip if you’re not totally sure how you, or someone in your party, will handle it.
Not Checking That Schedule
The Skyliner typically closes for a brief amount of time each year for its annual refurbishment, and Disney is usually pretty good about announcing this closure about a year to 10 months in advance. With that being said, if you’re planning on staying at one of the four resorts that uses the Skyliner JUST because of the Skyliner, you NEED to triple check when those closures are to ensure you won’t be staying at a Skyliner resort with no access to the Skyliner. For 2026, the Skyliner will be closed from January 25th to January 31st, and in 2027, it’ll be closed from January 24th through January 30th.

And remember that schedule we talked about the Skyliner running on every day? CHECK THE SCHEDULE! Every day! The last thing you want is to be leaving a Skyliner resort restaurant, or just hoping to hop over to another resort for a late-night (or early morning) snack, only to find that the Skyliner is closed.

Again, this information is readily available on your My Disney Experience app every moment of every day, and if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel and have your hotel TV on the information section, you’ll see the times listed there too. You can also call the hotel front desk, or ask Cast Members in person, that way you don’t have to walk all the way to the Skyliner just to see the sign.
Don’t Scream
Well, this one sounds weird, but it HAPPENS. When the Skyliner comes into the station, any station, for that matter, it happens quick. Many people who are riding for the first time actually gasp, exclaim, or sometimes scream out loud, because they think their car is going to hit the one in front of them.

We don’t blame you — it IS fast and can be pretty scary, not to mention that the Skyliner HAS had two crashes in its history (with no one harmed either time), but we assure you, it’s been four years since its last incident, and no one has crashed since. You won’t run into the car in front of you, even though it may feel like it! If you know this is something that will worry you, we recommend turning away or closing your eyes when you come up on a station (or, if you’re like me, watch intently, because it’s thrilling and fun).
