The EPCOT transformation is taking its sweet time wrapping up, but we’ve seen so many exciting new things come from it!
There’s Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France pavilion, the fan-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster, and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, of course! With all of these new attractions, Disney also brought back something special in 2023 that means a lot to longtime EPCOT fans… .
In case you haven’t been to EPCOT recently, Soarin’ Over California is back!
Disney brought back the original version of the ride in September 2023 to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary. But now that the celebrations are technically over in EPCOT, why is the Soarin’ Over California attraction still around? Looking at the wait time data, it’s actually quite obvious!
Soarin’ Over California has been missing since 2016 when Soarin’ Around the World took over. When the California version returned, it was posting very high wait times on its opening day. Since then, the wait times have been consistently higher than we saw at Soarin’ Around the World!
In fact, before Soarin Over California returned, wait times peaked around 30 minutes on average most weeks. After, the wait times are almost always above 40 minutes on average. It’s currently a big draw so it doesn’t make sense for Disney to take it away again just yet.
Soarin’ Over California also returns to Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort from time to time, typically during the Food & Wine Festival.

I really wish they would keep CA version at DL as it makes sense to the land it is in and it is my favorite. The world I am always looking at curved pyramid and eiffel tower.
I’ve experienced both versions. Really hoping Soarin’ Around the World is back soon! I miss the emotional crescendo of flying over Iguazu Falls, the Eiffel Tower, and Spaceship Earth. And the fun transitions! Like a DK science book come to life, very 90’s in the spirit of classic Epcot.
