We’ve been keeping an eye on the development of the new storm Isaias as it has progressed from a Tropical Storm to a Category One Hurricane at this time.

While Hurricane Isaias is currently over the Caribbean, it is expected to move towards the Florida and the East Coast this weekend .

According to WESH 2 News, Hurricane Isaias could potentially strengthen from a Category One Hurricane into a Category Two as it continues to pick up speed.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds this morning were at 80 miles per hour as its center hovered 15 miles northwest of the Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas. Isaias has continued to move at 17 miles per hour with its forecasted path to move from the Bahamas to South Florida on Saturday.

If Hurricane Isaias continues to strengthen into a Category Two, its maximum sustained winds could reach 100 miles per hour. Although the hurricane could possibly hit Florida’s coast, the forecast currently keeps it out at sea mostly. However, that still means there could be plenty of heavy wind, rainfall, and even beach erosion.

A tropical storm watch is in place for Florida’s east coast from Ocean Reef to the Sebastian Inlet and Lake Okeechobee. Governor Ron DeSantis has advised Floridians to keep alert without “letting down their collective guard” as Hurricane Isaias moves. The storm has already flooded streets and taken down trees as well as telephone and electrical cables in Puerto Rico.
