When it comes to queues, Disney has tested many things over the years. Single rider lines, various ride-swap options for parents, Fastpass, Fastpass+, Genie+, all the way to every current incarnation of Lightning Lanes.

For years, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run has used a single-rider line to fill in flight crews (usually engineers). Now, for the second time, Disney has begun experimenting with that line, allowing parties of two to come through.
The system, which has been tested at Hollywood Studios as well as at Disneyland intermittently over the last few months, allows Cast Members to, for example, take a party of four from the standard queue, then search the single rider line for a party of two to complete the ride’s complement of six. Or to even potentially fill out a vehicle with a party of three from the standard queue, a pair from the single ride rider line, and then a traditional single rider.

If fully implemented, the system would be a big change for Disney, as it would be the first time parties of more than one guest could join the single rider line, yet still ride together.
During a recent visit to Hollywood Studios, we asked a Cast Member about the testing, and we were told that it is ongoing (even though the ride’s signage still reads “Single Rider”) with no specific timeline.

Not so coincidentally, this testing is coming just weeks before Smugglers Run sees the biggest update since the ride opened in 2019. In conjunction with the release of the new Star Wars Mandalorian & Grogu feature film on May 22nd, Millennium Falcon Smuggler’s Run will see the addition of a new mission based on the titular character and his youngling Grogu (Baby Yoda, to those of you unfamiliar with the Galaxy Far, Far Away).

According to Disney, as part of the new experience, “the crew will be in control of their own destination, leading to potential adventures on Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor, or the just-announced bustling city-planet, Coruscant.” In addition, another new gameplay addition allows the engineer positions to communicate with Grogu, making them much more “important” to the ride’s overall story and narrative.

Disney is testing a NEW queue system at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run just weeks before the Star Wars ride sees a new – and likely majorly popular – addition. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Disney World’s evolution.
