Didn’t Get a Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group in the Morning? Here’s What You Can Do!

If you’ve been anywhere near Disney’s Hollywood Studios this week, you’ll probably know that Rise of the Resistance got a HUGE change yesterday.

Rise of the Resistance

Previously, guests needed to be in the park before 10AM in order to grab a Boarding Pass for the popular attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, yesterday, Disney switched things up to allow guests to book their Boarding Groups outside the parks as early as 7AM.

When we tested the new feature through the My Disney Experience, we made sure to hop on the app prior to 7 AM to make sure we could grab a Boarding Group right as they opened. Since Rise of the Resistance is the hot ticket to snag in Galaxy’s Edge, we expected the groups to go pretty fast (which definitely was the case).

While Disney’s Hollywood Studios officially opened at 10AM yesterday, there was a sign placed outside the park at 9:30AM stating that the Boarding Groups for the morning were already full. Even though it’s convenient to be able to secure a Boarding Group while you’re eating breakfast or before you’ve left your Disney Resort for the day, Rise of the Resistance spots are still expected to sell out quickly.

So, what happens if you can’t grab a Boarding Pass, even with the new system?

Rise of the Resistance

Since the Boarding Groups open at 7AM, it’s important to make sure that you log onto your My Disney Experience app a bit before the groups are available. It will give you more of a chance to actually secure a spot if you’re able to join the Virtual Queue right as it becomes available to guests everywhere.

However, not all hope is lost if you can’t snag a morning Boarding Group! Disney’s Hollywood Studios is still offering the 2PM Boarding Groups for guests wanting to ride the attraction. However, you will need to be in the park in order to join that group. So, maybe spend your morning next door at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run or eating a Ronto Wrap before you join a queue in the afternoon!

But, if the new system just doesn’t seem to fit in your schedule, there’s still the option to switch parks for the day. Since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge might be the reason you’re heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in general, that Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group might be an important part of your day. If that’s the case, we recommend seeing if another Disney World park has availability that day so you can switch your Disney Park Pass.

It’s important to note that you can only switch parks if you have not already scanned in for your Park Pass for the day. So, if you do choose to switch parks after not getting your Rise group for the day, it will only work if you haven’t already scanned into Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

While you might head to the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT instead, you can always attempt to snag a Boarding Group by scheduling a Park Pass for a different day in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new Rise of the Resistance system will be an everyday thing, so you’ll have multiple chances throughout the week to score a spot on the ride.

Rise of the Resistance

Although Rise of the Resistance may be at the top of your parks’ to-do list, a little flexibility can go a long way in Disney World! While we aren’t sure if the new system in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be permanent, we’ll keep you updated on the best ways to visit Disney World right now!

  1. Even with the new change to Rise of the Resistance, more people DON’T get a boarding group, than do.

I attempted at 7am on Nov. 5, and failed within 5 minutes after 7am. So we go to HS and wait around like everyone else for the 2pm chance. Everyone is sitting & walking around with their phones & again, within MINUTES, all boarding groups are full.

Disney really needs to revamp this entire system!

Since the park attendance is limited in capacity AND a guest has to have a reservation to go into Hollywood Studios, they already know (roughly) how many people can be expected to attend on a particular day. Why not let the guest reserve a spot for ROR when they reserve their HS visit for that day?!?! This could be done similar to booking Fastpasses. We know there system is capable of doing this, just do it ALREADY!!!

I feel very sorry for the guest service cast members that have to listen to the never ending complaints every day about not getting to experience ROR!

  2. We got into a standby group at the 2pm que… was called to board around 5pm! Extemeley happy we got to ride! Dont give up!
