Over the past decade and a half, MagicBands have become a huge part of the Walt Disney World experience for many, myself included. I’ve purchased several MagicBands over the last 10 years, using them as everything from a fashion accessory, room key, credit card, and park ticket all at once. However, even with all that, is now a good time to buy one?

The answer seems to be… it depends. I spoke with several members of the AllEars team, and got varied responses. So let’s look at the reasons to get — and the reasons to skip — a MagicBand+.
In the pro MagicBand+ column, there’s the convenience factor. As stated above, a Magic Band+ can fulfill several vital functions, including acting as both a theme park ticket and room key. Being able to combine all that into one small, wrist-worn accessory can definitely make life at Walt Disney World – and Disneyland – easier.

Additionally, from an aseptic perspective, MagicBands over many designs based on Disney films, shows, and attractions that otherwise aren’t featured on much merchandise. For example, Disney is currently offering MagicBand+ designs celebrating major anniversaries of classic films including Pocahontas (30th), Three Caballeros (80th), and Lady and the Tramp (70th).

However, there some arguments against picking up a MagicBand+. For starters, there’s cost. Most bands are in the $40-$50 range, and while they do offer the aforementioned convenience, all of the available functions can be achieved without one. As one of my colleagues put it, “But I’d much rather spend that $30-$40 for a nice meal, honestly.”

In addition, comfort is an issue for some. Thanks to MagicBand’s rubbery composition, they can be painful and itchy to some, especially during the hot summer months.

While there are valid reasons to say either “yes” or “no” to purchasing a MagicBand+ right now, the final decision resides with you. If the convenience and aesthetic appeal is worth it for you, then go for it. If not, then don’t simple as that. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on planning a Disney World vacation.
