83% of Disney Adults Are DEVASTATED By This Abandoned Disney World Attraction

EPCOT has seen a lot of changes over the past few years.

EPCOT

Starting in 2019, EPCOT started to undergo a massive transformation, which was finally marked complete when CommuniCore Hall and Plaza opened this past June. This transformation included the addition of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Journey of Water—Inspired by Moana, the new Club Cool, Connections Eatery, Creations Shop, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and so much more. While this transformation did bring a lot of new additions to the park, other projects were announced to be included in this transformation that unfortunately never came to fruition.

While EPCOT was under construction, you could visit The Odyssey and have an EPCOT Experience. Here, you could get a glimpse at everything that is to come to EPCOT in the future. While a lot of the promised projects did happen, we missed out on an attraction that would have been added to the United Kingdom Pavilion in the World Showcase

The EPCOT Experience

Cherry Tree Lane would have come to life in the United Kingdom Pavilion, and it would have included a Mary Poppins-themed attraction.

While this project was part of the projection mapping show at the EPCOT Experience, it was quietly removed from the loop. Soon after, no mention of the project was made on Disney’s websites. In 2022, during the Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders, previous CEO Bob Chapek was asked about the shelved attraction and noted that it was in a “holding pattern.” But as for now, the ride is officially shelved.

We would have loved to take a stroll down Cherry Tree Lane, and a majority of you agreed. We asked you, our awesome readers, to tell us how you felt about this canceled Disney World attraction.

One reader said, “It would have been great to have the streets and buildings of the UK pavilion in Cherry Tree Lane. One of them could have belonged to Admiral Boom. Have the chimney sweepers perform. The movie has so many iconic scenes that Disney could have made this area practically perfect in every way.” Another reader agreed and said, “Flying through London on an umbrella or a kite would be awesome!

Other readers said that they wish that not only was the Mary Poppins attraction built, but they also shared their other wishes for EPCOT. A reader shared that they were sad that the Mary Poppins attraction got put on the back burner. However, they are still hoping that Disney will do something with the Wonders of Life Pavilion and bring Dreamfinder back to Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

The Wonders of Life Pavilion would have new life breathed into it as it was announced that the PLAY! Pavilion would be added to this area of the park. Unfortunately, along with the Mary Poppins attraction, it was canceled and was not completed as part of the EPCOT Transformation.

Some readers liked the idea of the addition, but one reader said that it would not be necessary. Another reader shared that they would love a Mary Poppins attraction, but they were not thrilled with the original concept art.

Overall, a majority of readers agree that Mary Poppins, whether in the original announced ride or some other form, would have made a great addition to EPCOT. We will keep our fingers crossed that Mary Poppins and the PLAY! Pavilion may be taken off the shelves, but for now, it seems that this project has been abandoned.

  1. How sad, really. Mary Poppins is one of the great movies of all time. The songs stick in your head. Imagine a ride, like It’ s a Small World, that features Let’s Go Fly A Kite. This is another example of a situation where you could really, honestly say Disney doesn’t make ’em like it used to. It certainly would have bought tears to P.L. Travers’ eyes had they done it and done it right.
