I Thought This Outfit Would Be Perfect For Disney World. Spoiler Alert: It WASN’T

Deciding what to wear to Disney World is HARD, okay?

Hey, MK!

Maybe you’ve got your favorite go-to outfits, but what about all those other cute options in your closet? Are they good for the parks? Should you break away from your tried and true to see how they work? That’s the decision I made on my last trip and I found out the hard way that it was INCORRECT.

Now, I’m not here to say that you need to stick with your favorites and never try anything new, but MAYBE be a little smarter than I was and make sure that if you are trying something new, you bring a backup outfit that you know works well, just in case.

Let me set the scene (because who would I be if I didn’t?): I’d be in Disney World for a pretty quick 36-ish hours. I was waking up wildly early the first day to drive down before having a half day in the parks, had a whole second day in the parks, and then would drive back the next morning.

Ready for the parks!

My first day, I was in an outfit that I knew would be comfortable to drive 7 hours in, but that I also knew would be appropriate for the parks (moisture wicking shirt and skirt with shorts built-in for the win!). Everything was fine on that day, but my second day, I decided to wear a romper I had gotten online (and had worn before, so I knew it fit fine) with a shirt underneath. The shorts are pretty long, so I figured I’d be comfortable in the parks — WRONG.

I thought this outfit would be perfect!

While I hadn’t run into any issues wearing the outfit at home, I failed to remember that things change DRASTICALLY when you’re walking 10 miles a day in Disney World instead of 1-2 miles per day (if that) at home. What I quickly found out was that while the shorts are long, the way they’re created means they were prone to riding up as I walked sometimes. It didn’t look bad to the people around me, it was more just something I could feel. I tried to adjust the straps of the romper, but it was no use — with the way the romper is cut, it’s much more suited for everyday movement, not Disney World movement.

It was around this time I was regretting my decision

I was so bummed, because I thought I had done a good job of thinking through the logistics of the outfit and its practicality for the parks, but it was a lesson to me to remember that sometimes even if it seems like it’ll be fine, not every outfit is Disney World approved.

And since I didn’t have a backup outfit, I was doomed to suffer (I’m being dramatic, it wasn’t THAT bad) for the whole day, which consisted of 3/4 parks and hopping back and forth between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT 3 times.

Friends! (And a full look at the romper!)

So, the moral of the story is that there’s no problem with trying out some new outfits in Disney World, but be sure to bring a backup in case something starts to go wrong. Even if you’re 95% certain you’ll run into no problems! The weather can also be a big factor too! If something is fine dry, but it’s never gotten wet before, you may find out the hard way how uncomfortable it becomes after it rains or you get off a water ride.

  1. I feel this with my whole soul. I too have tried new things and come to regret them (or at least in the theme park setting). Matching my tee, ears and jewelry and pairing them with my old reliable sneakers and leggings will always be my move.

  2. Honestly the Gold Bond Friction Defense is amazing at protecting you from chaffing. I can go a few hours before needing to reapply. Now you can pack any outfit you want and just bring this little stick!
