How to Handle Disney World’s Most Unreliable Ride

The PeopleMover is one of those Disney rides that literally no one hates — but it’s not without issues.

Is there anyone who doesn’t love a leisurely ride through Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland on the PeopleMover?! Unfortunately, we’ve seen the ride closed often and frequently evacuated, so it’s not exactly known as the most reliable ride in Disney World. Today was no exception, so find out what you can do about it here.

Recently in Magic Kingdom we made our way to the PeopleMover for a calm ride around Tomorrowland, but it was closed. Once again.

PeopleMover is closed

Ride vehicles were stopped on the track and we were told by Cast Members that the ride was likely to be closed for the remainder of the day.

The PeopleMover was closed for almost a year from 2020 to 2021, but in spite of that refurbishment time, the ride has continued to experience frequent closures and evacuations.

Closed for now

The PeopleMover takes you on a track through Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, where you get unique views and even cross through Space Mountain. You might catch a glimpse of the usually dark coaster with the lights on. The 10-minute ride can be a great way to take a break and rest during a busy Disney Park day.

If you have your heart set on riding the PeopleMover on your next trip to Magic Kingdom, it’s a good idea to check the My Disney Experience app frequently for news about ride closures (and openings), especially if you’re Park Hopping. You don’t want to travel all the way to Magic Kingdom only to find the ride closed for the day.

If you’re looking for a spot to take a break in Magic Kingdom but the PeopleMover is closed, you could visit the nearby Carousel of Progress for around 21 minutes of sitting in the AC, or you could take a short walk over to Storybook Circus to sit down in the Storybook Circus tent. Or just stop by a classic dark ride for some fun!

As much as we love the PeopleMover, it’s not always safe to assume it will be open during your visit. Remember to check the My Disney Experience app and prepare for possible closures. Keep following AllEars for more Disney World news!
