Spirit Airlines landed for good when the airline permanently closed on May 2nd, 2026. The sudden closure axed more than 1,000 flights from the Orlando International Airport.

Several other budget airlines offered discounted routes for travelers affected by the Spirit closure, and now, four major airlines are taking on Spirit’s previous routes.
Following Spirit’s closure, Frontier Airlines announced that it will add nine routes and 15 daily flights this year out of the Orlando International Airport. The ultra-low-cost airline already offers multiple flights at MCO that Spirit previously flew, including major cities such as New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Chicago.

Breeze Airways will add a new route connecting the Orlando International Airport to Atlantic City, New Jersey, as part of an expansion at Atlantic City International Airport. Daily nonstop service between Orlando and Atlantic City will begin July 3rd, with introductory one-way fares starting at $89.

Colombian Avianca Airlines will expand its route between Orlando and Medellin, Colombia, to year-round daily service, with a starting date to be announced. Avianca is the second-largest airline in South America, with a large presence at the Miami International Airport.

In addition, Southwest Airlines will expand its service to 17 existing routes out of Orlando. The following cities will see more Southwest flights to and from Orlando between June and November:
- Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Austin, Texas
- Baltimore, Maryland
- Buffalo, New York
- Kansas City, Missouri
- Las Vegas, Nevada
- Louisville, Kentucky
- Memphis, Tennessee
- Milwaukee, Wisconsin
- Nashville, Tennessee
- New Orleans, Louisiana
- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Rochester, New York
- San Antonio, Texas
- San Juan, Puerto Rico
