Big changes are coming to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and the process could get a little ugly…

The Hollywood Studios roller coaster is set to officially drop its Aerosmith theming for a brand-new story and aesthetic based on The Muppets — including NEW Muppet audio-animatronics! While the ride is set to officially close on March 2nd and reopen in the summer of 2026, some changes have already taken place, and we’re worried about what future changes could look like between now and the ride’s closure.
While most of the work on this Disney World ride will be done during its closure in the spring, we’ve already seen a phased approach that includes removing ride elements.

On December 1st, Disney officially removed the ride’s pre-show WITHOUT WARNING. In years past, when the ride’s pre-show was having issues, the background of the recording studio was still visible, but now, the change is far less appealing.

However, we were able to confirm that now, instead of seeing into the recording studio, the only things visible are silver screens with the G-Records logo.

Whether we were ready to accept it or not, one thing is for certain: The current iteration of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster won’t be operating at 100%. In fact, we could see the ride get more and more stripped down in the coming months.

Since the ride’s retheme will be a quick turnaround, we may see more parts of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster stripped before it closes in March — and without much warning.
That could include scenery, set pieces, vehicle changes — you name it. While nothing is confirmed, neither was the removal of the pre-show… and that still happened. If you plan on riding this coaster on or before March 1st, keep in mind that you won’t be experiencing the Aersomith version in all of its glory.

As for the changes that will eventually make their way to the ride, Disney has confirmed that the newest version will include a story where Scooter’s uncle — real estate tycoon and owner of the Muppet Theatre, J.P. Grosse — takes over G-Force Records, and the Electric Mayhem band is headlining its biggest concert EVER.
Guests have been given VIP passes and can discover the Electric Mayhem laying down some tracks while the penguins act as audio engineers. Scooter is trying to get the band to the concert venue in time, and you’re along for the ride as Electric Mayhem plays iconic music to some thrilling twists and turns.

Along with a new story and music, the ride will also get a new guitar makeover featuring a piano motif at the base “as a nod to a certain far-out band leader.” The ride will also feature a first-of-its-kind Muppet audio-animatronic.
