The Underrated Part of Disney World That (We Hope) Will RETURN This Year

Despite the fact that the past two years have seen more ups and downs than the Tower of Terror, it’s been a slow and steady return to normalcy for Disney World.

As attractions, hotels, restaurants, and water parks continue to reopen one by one, there’s one particularly underrated attraction that we have our eyes on for 2022!

It’s hard to believe that Disney World first reopened way back in 2020. Now here we are in 2022, and the reopenings just keep coming!

In recent months, we’ve been reunited with our beloved Mickey Beignets, with late-night piano duels, and with Indiana Jones! But there’s still more to look forward to in the year ahead.

We’re talking about a little thing called the Walt Disney Railroad. This is easily the most underrated part of Disney World that still lies dormant, and it’s done so for quite a while!

The Magic Kingdom attraction first closed due to construction for TRON Lightcycle Run, and considering the track had to be re-routed to accommodate work on the Tomorrowland ride, there’s a good chance we won’t see the train back in action until TRON is complete as well.

In the meantime, we’ve distracted ourselves with Walt Disney Railroad-inspired merch, but a dress just isn’t the same as an actual train, ya know?

But there’s hope! Not only is TRON (supposedly) set to open this year, that could mean a return for the railroad as well!

We miss you Walt Disney World Railroad

Indeed, Disney World was testing the train in December, which got us excited and hopeful!

Sure, it’s not a buzzy thrill attraction that’ll soak you in water or accelerate to cheetah-speed, but this one has a pretty hefty dose of nostalgia attached to it.

Dare we say the Walt Disney Railroad is as iconic a sight at Magic Kingdom as Cinderella Castle? And there’s nothing quite like the peaceful feeling of roving around Disney World’s O.G. park from the comfy confines of a vintage train.

As TRON races toward completion and testing ramps up on the train, all signs point to 2022 as the year that the Walt Disney Railroad actually finally returns, and we’re here for it!
