I Have a MAJOR Problem With Breakfast in Disney World

There comes a time in every girl’s life when she suddenly cares about breakfast.

I miss you, Prince Eric!

I lived in Disney World for 3 years, and now I travel to the parks once a month. While I’m not in the parks, I’m writing every day about Disney tips, news, and planning. After all of this time, I’m noticing one consistent problem I have with the resort, and it all comes down to that first meal of the day.

I have eaten hundreds, if not thousands, of meals in Disney World over the course of my lifetime. I know what snacks are good, which ones are skip-worthy, and which ones are perfect for special occasions only. Ironically, I don’t consider myself to be a breakfast person, but I have a bone to pick with Disney in this area.

As I was researching a video for the AllEars YouTube channel (which you should totally check out), it hit me that Disney has had a serious breakfast downgrade over the last few years. Even though I’m not a breakfast person, it used to be my favorite meal in Disney World, but several of the best spots have disappeared over the last few years. Not sure what I mean? Let’s start by taking a look at Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom.

Inside Be Our Guest

This is a Beauty and the Beast-themed restaurant that, at one point in time, offered a way to dine in the gorgeous restaurant without paying $72 per adult and $43 per child. Long alone (pre-COVID, which you will notice a theme of in this post), there was a quick service breakfast option at Be Our Guest

This breakfast previously let you experience the amazing theming without breaking the bank or spending a lot of time dining during your park day because it was a quick experience and affordable. I loved this option, and it’s been missing since the 2020 park closures. Sure, I can get a Giant Cinnamon Roll right next door at Gaston’s Tavern, but without the over-the-top theme, it just isn’t the same. While the dinner is good, the price tag and memory of the quick service breakfast make it hard to dine there, in my opinion.

My breakfast beef continues over at Topolino’s Terrace. Still to this day, I love the Topolino’s Terrace breakfast. It features Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Donald in their artistic best, with some incredible meals and drinks. That being said, it used to be even better than it is now.

It’s still very good, don’t get me wrong, but did you know that you used to be able to order MULTIPLE entrees for one price? Currently, breakfast is a prefix and costs $52 per adult and $33 per child. For a while, when this spot first opened, the menu didn’t specify that adults could only choose one entree, and I took full advantage of that! I was able to order multiple options all for that prefix price, but Disney quickly changed that policy, making sure that the menus said “select one entree.” Sure, it makes sense why they changed it, but I will never forget what it used to be. I miss you, Topolino’s Breakfast Loophole, I miss you.

My next Breakfast Breakup takes us back into the Magic Kingdom at the Plaza Restaurant. This restaurant is on Main Street, U.S.A., and it serves up American-inspired meals that I really enjoy. A long time ago (really only a few years, but who’s counting), there was a breakfast option at this restaurant, and I will legitimately never forget it.

It had an amazing steak and eggs option, Mickey Waffles with a banana creme, Lobster Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict, and more! (Hey, is that drool on my chin?) It was a short-lived experiment that started in 2018 and ended in 2020. Seriously… it was amazing and for some reason, it’s never returned. While I still really enjoy the Plaza, I won’t deny that my favorite options from this table service are long gone.

Finally, my last and biggest breakfast upset is over at the Boardwalk Inn at Trattoria Al Forno. People love a good character dining spot, and so do I. If you don’t know, once upon a time, there was a Princess Character dining option called Bon Voyage Breakfast. My hair was shorter, I was working for Disney, and you could have breakfast with Rapunzel, Ariel, Flynn Rider, and Prince Eric

Me and my husband with Flynn Rider!

This spot offered tasty breakfast, a fun song and dance for you to do with the characters, and it was the only place you could meet Flynn or Eric. Sure, you can spot Flynn in the Festival of Fantasy Parade. You might even be able to meet them at special ticketed events like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, but it just isn’t the same. PLUS, you could meet Ariel in her blue dress from the animated film, which is something you can’t do anywhere else.

You can still eat breakfast here, but this Character dining option hasn’t returned. Seriously, this is the number one thing I need Disney to bring back ASAP. I’m practically begging at this point! Disney, I have seen what you’ve done for Satuli Canteen. I know you can do it for others.

There are so many good breakfasts in Disney World, like Ohana, Cape May Cafe, Ronto Roasters, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Boma, and more. I do love them, but nothing will stop me from missing those that we have mourned together here today. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Disney news, tips, and tricks!

  1. We used to have breakfast at Starring Rolls on every HS day! (Maybe it was still even MGM then.) I really miss that place!

  2. I miss the cheese Danish that you used to be able to get in multiple places. The only one left seems to be at Starbucks but that’s flaky pastry not Danish pastry. It was my favourite breakfast item in Disney. It’s not something that they sell in the UK where I live.

  3. Not sure if you noticed this, but you can no longer get omelettes, let alone egg whites or a veggie omelette anywhere! The Dolphin at Rosas Mexicano is like one of the very few places nowadays.
