2 Hugely Popular Rides Are Temporarily CLOSED in Disney World

Update: As of 3:45PM, Test Track was listed as “temporarily closed,” but Rise of the Resistance appeared to have reopened and was listed at a 105-minute wait. Test Track later reopened.

When it comes to Disney World, things aren’t always magical — rides can malfunction, animatronics don’t always work as they should, and rides can sometimes temporarily close.

Rise of the Resistance

This morning seems to be no exception as two incredibly popular rides in two parks are currently CLOSED.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is currently temporarily closed. Cast Members were on-hand to explain to guests that they can’t enter the queue as a result.

According to the Cast Members we spoke to, the ride had been down about half an hour when we checked around 11:30AM ET. The Cast Members were advising guests to visit other attractions in the park and keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to see when the ride becomes available again.

Over in EPCOT, there’s a somewhat similar situation. Cast Members were available to speak to outside of Test Track because it is also temporarily closed.

According to the Cast Member we spoke to, Test Track has been down all morning. We asked whether it was possible if the ride could be closed all day, and the Cast Member noted that, with what was going on, it was absolutely possible. The Cast Member indicated that what they’re experiencing is a technical issue.

While in EPCOT, we saw a message pop up on the My Disney Experience app alerting us to the Test Track closure.

So if you’re in either of those parks, make a note that these rides are currently unavailable. Just remember that closures can change often.

If you want to know if/when these rides will reopen, keep checking the My Disney Experience app to see if the ride is listed as “temporarily closed” or if a wait time is listed.

If you’re heading to Disney World, potential temporary closures like these are things you’ll want to be prepared for. They’re unpredictable and unscheduled, so it’s not as though you can plan them into your trip exactly, but you will want to be prepared for the possibility of temporary closures like these.

Here are a few tips to handle these types of situations:

  • Closely watch the My Disney Experience app for updates
  • Make sure your My Disney Experience app notifications are ON so you can get updates (like that push notification we got)
  • Discuss the possibility of potential ride closures with your family so you can cushion the disappointment if a must-do ride does go down for a long time during your trip
  • Have a back-up plan of what rides and other things you can do if one of your must-do rides temporarily closes
  • Consider giving yourself 2 days in a park with a lot of must-do rides or buying a Park Hopper so you have the flexibility to come back to a ride that might be temporarily closed during a large part of your day

We’ll keep an eye out for more updates!
