Here’s What You Can Do in the Disney Parks BEFORE They Open

We spent a bright and early morning at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

One of our top questions has been in regards to rope dropping. Just how early can you get into the parks, and how much can you do before it starts getting busy? Today, Hollywood Studios was set to open at 9AM, so we showed up early to put those questions to the test!

We were in line for the parking booth ready to GO at 8AM. At the time, Disney wasn’t letting people in just yet! So we sat in our car and jammed out to some Hamilton while we waited.

Just before 8:30, we were in and getting in line for temperature check outside the park! We were actually inside Hollywood Studios about half an hour before opening, ready to ride as much as we could.

While most people headed to Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway or Smugglers Run, we decided on a leisurely walk down Sunset Blvd towards the Tower of Terror. The wait time was posted at 20 minutes, so it was time for a visit to our favorite hotel!

Off to the Hollywood Tower Hotel!

We only waited 15 minutes, so the service was great! Unfortunately, we thought we were going for a nice continental breakfast, but our elevator broke. One star review!

The wait was all the way up to 70 minutes when we got off, so it definitely helped to show up early. After Tower of Terror, we headed over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which had a posted 10 minute wait!

You won’t believe this, but we got backstage passes AND a stretch limo to the Aerosmith concert — all within 10 minutes!

By this point, is was just barely 9AM, aka official park opening. We’d already ridden two of the park’s most popular rides, before the crowds even arrived. But we weren’t finished just yet. While the wait times were low, we headed over to Muppet Vision 3D.

It was fun, but then a crazy cook blew up the theater. Weird.

Speaking of cooks…we were getting hungry! We hopped over to Galaxy’s Edge, where a robot made us some breakfast. It was the perfect end to our morning!

Moral of the story: if you get to the parks early, you may be surprised by just how much you can get done! We were sitting down for our breakfast at 10:30AM, and we’d already knocked out 3 attractions. We’ll keep bringing you the latest Disney tips and tricks, so stay tuned to AllEars!

  1. When I was there last month I did HS first a lot (for Rise) and generally did TOT 3-ish times before the park opened when I was first in line and rushed there. It’s a much better choice than MMRR, MFSR, etc cause that line does not go down later.
