We already know the basic story behind Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (opening March 4th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios). Mickey and Minnie, ever the scrappy heroes, have to save the guests after Goofy’s train goes way off the rails!

But, turns out, there’s actually a second storyline hidden in this ride, a first for any Disney Attraction! This story is just one of a plethora of easter eggs hidden on this new attraction — but what could it be about?
According to the OC Register, Walt Disney Imagineering’s Kevin Raffety calls the second plot a “B Story”, a term commonly used in film and television to refer to a secondary plot in an episode. Think of an episode of The Simpsons —Â Homer might be up to some sort of shenanigans at work, while Bart and Lisa end up in a thematically similar, yet unrelated situation at school.

This sort of storyline has never happened on a Disney ride before. In fact, older rides would often forgo plot entirely, instead generating a mood or conveying a theme. Think of Pirates of the Caribbean or “it’s a small world”. Other rides would just have a simple storyline, like Haunted Mansion (you go into a haunted house) or they would retell the story of a popular film (like Peter Pan’s Flight). The idea of a dark ride having its own original storyline with recurring characters and dialogue is a relatively recent development.

But what is this new storyline, exactly? We’ve got a few theories. Chuuby, the orange bird shown prominently in marketing materials and merchandise, is an original character designed for the ride. However, we don’t know what role he’s going to play!

We do know that Pluto will be trying to catch up with the famous pair to save their picnic basket, as revealed in several of the posters.

Could Chuuby and Pluto end up on a wild misadventure? We know the new attraction’s B Plot will be subtle, but obvious, so we’ll know for sure what to expect in just two weeks! There are other easter eggs on this new attraction as well, including the most Hidden Mickeys on ANY Disney Attraction! We’ll have a report when the ride opens on March 4th!

Ummm, the Great Movie Ride had 2 plots depending on which car you were in (gangsters or Indiana Jones).
Yep – I was coming to comments to say the same thing! Is this really going to live up to what they had with the GMR? 😔
Isn’t the Star Tours ride an already existing multiple storyline ride?
The MK version of Splash Mountain tells a coherent story from beginning to end, as a direct result of the muddled storytelling of the DL version, and has for nearly 30 years.
