Uh, Universal, are you doing okay over there?

We know you’re focused on opening Epic Universe this May, however, we can’t help but notice that this Islands of Adventure ride suddenly closed one day several months ago and we haven’t heard a peep about it since. Pteranodon Flyers has been closed for nine months and we have questions!
In mid-April 2024, Pteranodon Flyers unexpectedly closed with no announcement, and shortly after, the ride was added to Universal’s list of temporarily closed attractions — with no reopening timeframe.

Weeks went by and soon enough, nine months rolled around — nearly a full year since the original closure. Universal has still not made any sort of announcements or updates about the ride, aside from updating its closed attractions list on the website.
At this point, we’ve started to get concerned that Pteranodon Flyers may never reopen after all.

An opening-day Islands of Adventure attraction located in the Camp Jurassic area, Pteranodon Flyers has been around since 1999 and “allows riders to slowly soar and gently swing through the air in a comfy seat suspended from a track above.”
It’s one of the few rides with a maximum height in addition to a minimum one — 36″ to 56,” (with anyone taller than the maximum height only able to ride if they’re accompanying someone within the designated height range) which makes it “perfect for younger guests not ready for big-kid thrills.”

With the addition of the Jurassic World-themed VelociCoaster to this area of the park in 2021, many believe that Universal could be moving away from the original series’ 1990s aesthetics in order to make room for more of the Jurassic World franchise to be added.
Of course, Universal hasn’t made any official announcements about this being the case, so for now, we’re left wondering what’s going on with Pteranodon Flyers.
