A LOT is about to change in Disney World. Magic Kingdom is about to get a Cars expansion in Frontierland PLUS a new Villains land. Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be saying goodbye to DinoLand, U.S.A., and hello to Pueblo Esperanza.

In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Muppets Courtyard will be going away to make room for a new Monsters, Inc. land. However, the Muppets will be making their way over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster for a re-theme. During that time, though, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be closed, meaning we’ll have to face a whole new set of problems in Hollywood Studios.
So here are the issues we think the closure of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is going to cause in Disney World.
Higher wait times
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is a popular ride, meaning that it usually attracts a lot of folks willing to stand in line for it. With it being closed, though, that means those people are going to be standing in line for other rides. That could potentially mean other ride wait times will go up.

The closure of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will mean one less place for people to congregate in Hollywood Studios, which could also cause crowds in other areas of the park.
Hollywood Studios could be a big mess
So if Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closes at the same time that Muppets Courtyard is closed, that’s two big sections of Hollywood Studios closed off to the public. That’s going to cause a lot of crowding issues, too, as well as potentially long standby lines at other rides.

It’s also going to create a bit of construction mess in Hollywood Studios, with loads of construction walls to navigate around. We went through that with the EPCOT transformation, and we’re not sure we want to do that again in Hollywood Studios.
One less thing to ride at special paid events
Part of the appeal of Disney’s paid After Hours events and parties like Jollywood Nights is the chance to ride your favorite rides multiples times without long standby lines. With Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster being closed, though, that ticket for that paid event becomes a little less valuable, especially if that’s a perk of that paid event you were looking forward to.

You’ll still get to ride other rides, but if Rock ”n’ Roller Coaster is a favorite, you’ll just have to do without.
Less value out of Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is a Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction, meaning you’ll have one less ride to skip the standby lines on if you choose to pay for Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

This means that you’re getting a little less value from using Multi Pass in Hollywood Studios.
No alternative
If you want a roller coaster thrill ride alternative to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios (or even in Disney World), there really isn’t another option like it. Sure, you’ve got Slinky Dog Dash, but it doesn’t offer as much of a thrill experience that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster offers.

However, we’re guessing that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s closure will still create longer lines at Slinky Dog Dash being it is the only other coaster in the park.
Crowd flow issues
We mentioned the mess that Hollywood Studios could become if Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is closed at the same time as Muppets Courtyard. This is going to mean there’s less space in Hollywood Studios for people, which means crowd flow is going to be a big problem.

Expect to see bottlenecks in certain areas of the park, as well as a lot of detours around construction.
Disney has not yet announced a closing date for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, so we don’t know when that might happen, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details and will let you know when we have them. So please check back with AllEars again soon for more.
