Magic Kingdom

There’s a lot going on at Disney World in 2025. From closures to new attractions, there are plenty of factors that will influence how and when you’ll want to do Disney World next year. Can’t decide when to visit or if your current plans will work for you and your family? Read ahead!

We’re looking at some big developments in 2025 that will change how people generally experience Disney World. Each change or update will impact everyone’s trip differently, but it’s important to go into the new year with a full understanding of what’s happening at Disney World so that you can make the most out of your vacation.

EPCOT

Let’s start with the obvious: several attractions might be closing. We recently learned that Animal Kingdom’s Dinosaur ride will be open for most of, if not all of, 2025 before it closes permanently. If this is one of your favorite rides and you weren’t planning on visiting the park in 2025, you might want to change your mind to get one last ride in.

Similarly, Animal Kingdom’s It’s Tough to Be a Bug will close next winter to make way for a new Zootopia show, so no one would blame you for rescheduling your 2026 trip to 2025 to experience these Animal Kingdom attractions one last time.

We will also be eventually saying goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, possibly in 2025 as the former gives way to a new Monster Inc. land and the coaster gets a Muppets retheme. We don’t have specific dates yet, but the earlier you schedule a trip in 2025, the better if riding these Disney’s Hollywood Studios attractions is a top priority.

Speaking of going to Dinsey World as soon as possible, this is something you should consider if you’re a Rivers of America fanatic. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat are closing for good to make way for a new Cars extension in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. Essentially, when it comes to closures without specific dates announced, you might want to expedite your 2025 trip just to be safe.

With that said, some things at Disney World won’t be available until later in the year or near the end. For example, if you love Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom, be advised it’ll be closed for refurbishment from January 6th, 2025 into March 2025.

If you wait even later in the year, you’ll be able to experience the newest version of EPCOT’s Test Track! This fan-favorite ride closed its 2.0 version permanently on June 17th, 2024 and it’ll take nearly a year for version 3.0 to open. The reimagined ride will feature “today’s innovation while highlighting the past, present, and future,” according to Disney.

It’ll also feature a new queue with six different exhibits that celebrate vehicles and the people behind them, new ride scenes, new technology, and more customization while paying homage to the original World of Motion attraction. Test Track will reopen in the late summer of 2025.

Summer is shaping up to be a big season at Disney World, as Hollywood Studios will open Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, a new stage show that will journey into “the mysterious, reflective realm of the Magic Mirror” as villains partake in live production numbers. Some villains featured include Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Hades, and Maleficent. This show is replacing Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, which closed last October.

Staying at Hollywood Studios, “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” is FINALLY making its debut next summer. This show is replacing “Voyage of the Little Mermaid,” which never reopened after the pandemic, and will be a fully reimagined retelling of the animated classic.

You may want to skip 2025 altogether. Fans of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom will be sorely disappointed as the ride is scheduled for a lengthy refurbishment from January 6th, 2025 until some point in 2026. If this is a must-ride for you, consider pushing your trip back a year. We don’t have an exact reopening date yet, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as that’s announced.

Finally, make sure you’re watching the calendar for Disney’s water park closing dates. Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach (the latter being currently open) rotate being open for operations throughout the year, so if you prefer one over the other, you’ll need to stay up-to-date on their calendars.

Also starting on January 1st, 2025 is Disney World’s new free water park access for hotel guests on check-in day. Disney hotel guests will be able to enjoy complimentary access to either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon on day 1, so if this is something you’re interested in, don’t forget to pack a swimsuit in your carry-on!
