Is This a New Sign That Disney World’s REVAMPED Little Mermaid Show Is Opening SOON?

It just seems like no matter what, there will always be some kind of construction going on in Disney World, but that just means that things are always changing and new things are on the horizon.

Hollywood Studios

In the parks, we’ve been watching a ton of construction in EPCOT as the park underwent a massive transformation. We’ll also soon be seeing construction in Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand, U.S.A. as that part of the park is re-themed. Magic Kingdom will get a new expansion. In Hollywood Studios, a show has permanently closed to make way for a new show, and we’re seeing the first signs of construction there, too.

In late 2023, Disney World confirmed that the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show at the Animation Courtyard Theater was permanently closed to make way for a new show in that theater, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure”. The new show will serve as a retelling of The Little Mermaid animated movie following Ariel, a mermaid, who wants to become human.

The new show will feature songs previously seen in the closed show, including “Part of Your World” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” However, the new show will include “Kiss The Girl” for the first time. You can also expect to see some new elements to the show, including new sets and new puppets.

SO cool

We recently saw the first sign of this new show coming soon to Hollywood Studios. When we visited the Animation Courtyard Theater, we noticed that construction walls were now around the building. This could mean that Disney is already preparing the building to put the show together.

Disney has not yet revealed a LOT of details about the new show, but we have seen some fun concept art of some of its scenes. It looks like it will include a combination of motion-captured elements, animation, live actors, and puppets.

We can’t wait!

The new show is expected to open this fall, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for an official opening date, which we hope is announced soon.

In the meantime, you can visit the live-action Ariel at Walt Disney Presents in Hollywood Studios or head over to Magic Kingdom to visit the animated version of Ariel at Ariel’s Grotto, as well as ride Under The Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid.
