If there’s one thing that we can guarantee you about a day at Disney World, it’s that you’re going to do a bunch of walking.

Many people report walking 5, 8, or even more than 10 miles per day on a Disney Park day, so your feet will thank you for paying attention to what shoes would be best
But what about rules for shoes at Disney World? We have seen flip flops prohibited on rides in some theme parks, so does Disney World have that rule?
The answer is no. Disney World doesn’t have any specific rules about what shoes can be worn and where — except for one! The rubberized clog-style shoe made famous by the Crocs brand is prohibited on escalators around Disney World.

Our friends at Disney Food Blog say this rule came about because of some accidents involving children wearing Crocs on escalators in the Disney Springs Parking Garages. We actually spotted some shoes STUCK in the escalators at The Land pavilion in EPCOT, which gives you a pretty clear image of why this rule is in place.

The only other Disney World rule regarding shoes is that you must wear them. We’ve seen people wearing everything from high heels to cowboy boots to sneakers in the parks — and they’re all OK. But we would like to “suggest” a few rules of our own:
1. Make sure your shoes have some support
Those thin, flat flip-flops may be your summer shoe of choice, and you might wear them daily. But they just aren’t built for serious walking. There’s no arch support and relatively little padding. Some of those shoes are so thin you may feel the Florida heat coming up from the pavement through them, or after a lot of walking you may — as Jimmy Buffet says — “blow out your flip-flop.”

If you do wear a flip flop in the park, there are many designed specifically for walking, so try one of those instead! We have some recommendations here.
2. Be prepared for blisters.
Lots of walking, compared with sweat and/or water rides and thunderstorms, can be a deadly combination when it comes to raising blisters. Even those of us who have given much consideration to our footwear and only pack the best-fitting, most supportive shoes, still find ourselves with an occasional foot blister. That’s why we don’t go to Disney World without some moleskin — padding made to cover them.

We recommend carrying some pads like this with you at all times, just in case!

3. Alternate Your Shoes
If you’re going to Disney World for more than one day in a row, one of our best tips is to change up your footwear! Bring more than one pair of park shoes and alternate by the day — this will do wonders for your comfort!
That’s a look at the rules surrounding shoes at Disney World — both our “rules” and the Disney World policies. If you want to know what we wear to Disney World, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite shoes right here!
