Disney’s Hollywood Studios Will Feel Totally Different in One Month

Oh, Hollywood Studios, how are you constantly changing?

The entrance into Animation Courtyard

We’ve seen a lot of changes coming to this 1989 park, including the change from the first name, MGM Studios. The entire theme of the park has changed over the years, but now it’s starting to bring in some original elements of being part animation studio. More changes are coming to Hollywood Studios, and they’re coming in fast.

The biggest change that you’ll see coming in September is that Animation Courtyard and Star Wars: Launch Bay will be closing down. The whole area will be closing on September 25th, 2025, to welcome in The Magic of Disney Animation.

Don’t worry, The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure, which opened in May 2025, will remain open the entire time.

The Magic of Disney Animation is going to “bring the wonder of animation to life like never before.” The building is based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California and will even have the famous Mickey’s sorcerer hat on top.

It will be packed with animation where prototypes will come to life and will offer drawing classes so you can become your own animator. There will also be lots of different characters hanging out in the area, which will feature trees, grass, and places to relax and play, along with trying new snacks (sign me up!).

As a huge Alice in Wonderland fan, I am beyond thrilled to see the “Drawn to Wonderland” playground, which will have giant flowers with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area. It will all be based on the concept art by Mary Blair.

Along with the closures, the current Disney Jr. Play and Dance show will not be reopening. On May 27th, the show closed for Cool Kid Summer and the show became an ongoing dance party with Disney Jr. characters and other entertainment. This show will not be reopening, but a new version of the show will open with The Magic of Disney Animation.

What else is happening in Hollywood Studios? One big project that’s coming in is Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc. themed land replacing Muppets Courtyard. Muppet*Vision 3D and the two restaurants closed and will be replaced with everything Monsters, Inc.

There will be a show and restaurants, but the main draw will be the hanging door roller coaster that looks like it’s straight out of the movie.

A new land themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Taking place after the events of the film, Monstropolis need humans’ laughter to power the city. Guests can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster.

It will feature new technology that will let you pick up your seats just like the doors that Mike, Sully, and Boo hang onto. Disney has been really hyping up the technology, so we’re excited to ride it ourselves.

While we were sad to see The Muppets being kicked out of the courtyard, they’re moving right along and evicting Aerosmith from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is an overlay to the existing coaster, but with a Muppet Twist. The preshow will feature some familiar faces with new animontronics as you help Electric Mayhem to their concert.

Even the outside is getting a bit of a makeover! They’re updating the colors to be more Electric Mayhem, and we’re here for it. The current version will be open through 2025, but will close sometime in 2026. The Muppet version will also be opening in 2026, so it’s going to be a fast turnaround.

All of these projects are making us excited to visit the park, and while we don’t know when Monstropolis will be opening, both The Magic of Disney Animation and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will be opening in 2026.

  1. I wish this wouldn’t happen because my heart already aches thinking of Doc McStuffins. As long as she comes back to echo lake or moves to a different park at Walt Disney World, then I am ok with that!
