10 Things You CAN’T Do at Disney World in December

If you’ve planned a Disney World vacation, you know there’s a LOT that goes into it.

Magic Kingdom

You’ve got to pick the dates, buy tickets, make Park Pass Reservations, and make dining reservations! On top of that, you’ve got to plan what your priorities are in the parks and whether or not you want to buy Genie+. But there’s another factor that you may not be thinking about when planning — closures.

Disney World is constantly changing and that means rides and experiences close for refurbishment. So let’s take a look at everything that will be closed in December 2022.

Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World Railroad

This one has been on the closures list for years, but in December the Walt Disney World Railroad will remain closed.

The train has arrived at the station!!!

On the bright side, we saw the Railroad testing near the Main Street Train Station and near the TRON coaster in November, so hopefully we will get a reopening date very soon!

It’s here!

TRON Lightcycle Run construction is what caused the Railroad to close, but the new ride is set to open in the spring of 2023.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow

In June of this year, Disney announced that several character meet and greets at Pete’s Silly Sideshow would return “soon”. However, it has been several months now and we’ve seen no sign of the meet and greet spot reopening!

Pete’s Silly Sideshow

We have spotted characters like Goofy out near Pete’s Silly Sideshow, but as far as the indoor meet and greet goes, we haven’t heard a peep. Hopefully the character experience will return soon.

Enchanted Tales with Belle

Nearly everything has reopened in Magic Kingdom since the 2020 closures, but Enchanted Tales with Belle remains closed.

Enchanted Tales with Belle

This is a show and character experience that takes you through the story of Beauty and the Beast and at the end you’d be able to see Belle!

Enchanted Tales with Belle details

Although this spot remains closed, you will usually find Belle meeting guests! To grab a photo with her, check the My Disney Experience app for times.

Ariel’s Grotto

Another character experience that still hasn’t reopened is the Ariel’s Grotto meet and greet!

Ariel’s Grotto

Disney has not made any announcements about this meet and greet returning, but you can enjoy The Little Mermaid by riding Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid nearby in Fantasyland!

Hollywood Studios

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

Another spot that has been unavailable since the 2020 park closures is Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

This stage show told a condensed version of The Little Mermaid and it was a fan-favorite in the park.

We want to note that when you try to go to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid page on the Disney World website, it brings you to a general list of attractions. It has been like this on the website for a while now, and although it’s not guaranteed, that could mean the show is not coming back.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

We’ll let you know as soon as Disney makes an announcement about its return or its replacement!

EPCOT

The American Adventure

Over in EPCOT, the American Adventure show has been closed for refurbishment since September, but it looks like that will be coming to an end this month!

American Adventure

The American Adventure is showing hours online starting December 17th, so we can expect to see it open then. We’ll update you if this date changes!

Cool Wash

The snack spot located near Test Track in EPCOT has been closed for a little while now and it recently got a new sign that says “Refreshment Station.”

A closer look

Hopefully this means the spot will reopen soon and maybe we could see some new offerings? We’ll find out!

Disney World Resorts

Narcoossee’sDisney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

If you were hoping to dine at Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in December, you’re out of luck.

Narcoossee’s

The restaurant has been closed since this summer and there is currently no reopening date in sight. We’re looking forward to seeing what changes were made at the restaurant when it does reopen.

Pool ClosureDisney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside

In December, The Oak Manor Leisure Pool will be closed at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside.

Pool

However it won’t be unavailable too long — it’s set to open in mid-December. If you’re staying here in December, the other pools at the resort will be open.

Disney’s Water Parks

Typhoon Lagoon

In November Blizzard Beach finally reopened after being closed for nearly a year! However, on the same day that water park reopened, Typhoon Lagoon closed.

Typhoon Lagoon

Disney hasn’t announced a reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon, but it will be closed in December. If you were hoping to go to a Disney water park this month, you’ll have to go to Blizzard Beach! The park reopened with new Frozen-themed touches and new snacks.

There is your look at everything that will be closed in Disney World in December! While one of these experiences has a potential reopening date, several of these have no reopening date in sight. We’ll be on the lookout for reopening dates and other closures that come up in Disney World.
