Disney World dining reservations disappear FAST, and some restaurants are practically gone the second your booking window opens.

If you’ve ever stared at the My Disney Experience app wondering which reservation actually deserves top priority, you’re definitely not alone. Between character meals, signature dining, and hard-to-get EPCOT spots, it can feel impossible to choose what to grab first. So I asked two Disney experts which reservation they book before anything else, and surprisingly, they both landed on the exact same answer. If you’re planning a Disney World trip right now, here’s where they say your focus should be.
If You’re Truly Splurging, Book Takumi-Tei First
When both experts immediately answered “Takumi-Tei,” I honestly wasn’t shocked.

Located inside EPCOT’s Japan pavilion, Takumi-Tei has quietly become one of Disney World’s most impressive dining experiences. This is not your average park meal. It’s a full luxury experience from the second you walk inside.

The restaurant takes inspiration from Japanese craftsmanship and nature, and every dining room has its own distinct atmosphere inspired by different natural elements. It feels calm, exclusive, and completely separated from the chaos outside in World Showcase. But the real reason Disney experts prioritize this reservation is the food experience itself.

Takumi-Tei offers multi-course omakase-style dining, meaning the chefs curate seasonal dishes designed around Japanese culinary traditions. The menu changes regularly, which makes it feel even more special for repeat visitors. You’re not just eating dinner here. You’re committing to an event. And yes, it’s expensive. Very expensive.

That’s exactly why experts recommend booking it first if it’s on your wishlist. People planning high-end Disney trips tend to prioritize this reservation immediately because there really isn’t another experience quite like it anywhere else on property.

That said, this restaurant is definitely not for everyone. If you’re a picky eater, traveling with little kids who won’t sit through a lengthy meal, or trying to stay budget-conscious, this probably isn’t your best fit. Meals here can easily stretch into a multi-hour experience, and the adventurous menu is part of the appeal.

Still, if you love Japanese cuisine, fine dining, and immersive experiences, this is one of those Disney restaurants people talk about long after the trip ends.

For a More Reasonable Splurge, Topolino’s Terrace Is a Favorite
Not everybody wants a $250-per-person dining experience, though. For guests looking for something upscale without diving fully into luxury territory, both experts also pointed toward Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera.

This restaurant sits at the top of Disney’s Riviera Resort, and honestly, the atmosphere alone makes it feel special. The rooftop setting gives the whole place a polished date-night energy that a lot of Disney restaurants just don’t have.

Dinner here is especially popular because the menu leans heavily into French and Italian-inspired dishes while still feeling approachable enough for most guests. You’ll find elevated entrees, handcrafted cocktails, and one of the better wine lists on Disney property. Then there’s the view.

Topolino’s has become famous for its nighttime views of EPCOT, especially during fireworks. Even guests who aren’t staying at Riviera Resort often make the trip over specifically for dinner reservations here.

It also strikes a nice middle ground financially. It’s still signature dining, so you’re paying premium Disney prices, but it doesn’t hit the same jaw-dropping level as Takumi-Tei.

Topolino’s works particularly well for adults-only trips, anniversaries, or couples wanting one really memorable dinner during vacation without completely blowing the budget.

Jiko Still Deserves More Love
The other reservation that came up immediately was Jiko – The Cooking Place. Jiko has built a loyal fanbase over the years, but somehow it still feels underrated compared to Disney’s flashier dining spots.

Located inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jiko specializes in African-inspired cuisine with bold flavors, slow-cooked dishes, and one of the best wine programs anywhere in Disney World. The atmosphere feels calm and intimate, which makes it especially popular for anniversaries, celebrations, and adults-only trips.

It’s unique without feeling intimidating, and the staff does an incredible job walking guests through the menu if they’re unfamiliar with some of the flavors or ingredients.

Another huge selling point is the location itself. Even though Animal Kingdom Lodge sits farther away from the main tourist flow, many Disney fans actually see that as a positive. Visiting the resort feels like part of the experience, especially when you can explore the savanna before dinner and spot giraffes, zebras, and other animals roaming outside.

That said, Jiko isn’t necessarily the right fit for every vacation style. If your family prefers safer, more familiar foods, the menu may feel a little too adventurous. And if you’re trying to maximize park time with quick meals, this probably won’t be your best choice since getting to Animal Kingdom Lodge takes some extra effort.

But for guests looking for one memorable signature dinner with incredible service, thoughtful dishes, and a quieter atmosphere, both experts agreed Jiko deserves way more attention than it gets.

Character Dining Changes Everything
Now, if character dining matters to your family at all, both experts agreed the strategy changes completely. In that case, your FIRST priority should absolutely be Cinderella’s Royal Table.

This reservation is consistently one of the hardest to secure at Disney World, and honestly, it makes sense. You’re dining inside Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom. That alone makes it bucket-list territory for a lot of families.

The food here is good, but nobody is booking Cinderella’s Royal Table strictly because they think it’s the best meal in Disney World. People book it for the experience.

You walk inside the castle, meet Cinderella, dine in the grand hall, and interact with Disney Princesses throughout the meal. For kids who love classic Disney characters, this can easily become the defining memory of the entire vacation. That’s why experts say this reservation jumps to the top immediately if princess dining is important to your trip.

Reservations disappear incredibly fast, especially for breakfast and prime dinner times. If you wait too long deciding whether you want it, there’s a very good chance someone else will grab it first.

The Bottom Line
If you’re planning a Disney World vacation and wondering which dining reservation deserves your immediate attention, these experts made one thing very clear: prioritize the experience you truly can’t recreate anywhere else. For luxury dining lovers, Takumi-Tei sits firmly at the top of the list. For a more approachable signature dinner, Topolino’s Terrace and Jiko continue to impress Disney regulars.
And for families chasing classic Disney magic, Cinderella’s Royal Table is still one of the biggest reservations in all of Disney World. Dining strategy can seriously shape your vacation, especially now that the most popular restaurants book up so quickly.
