When visiting Disney World, it’s important to be flexible, because all kinds of unexpected things can happen.

Bad weather can change your entire day, rides can malfunction, and attractions can unexpectedly close. On November 18th, 2022, we saw a number of unexpected closures, including one impacting the iconic Spaceship Earth ride in EPCOT.
During our time at EPCOT this morning, we received a message on the My Disney Experience app indicating that Spaceship Earth is currently unavailable. The message did say that Cast Members were working to get it up and running as soon as possible.
As of 10:40 AM ET on November 18th, the ride was still temporarily closed.

However, this isn’t the only ride that’s temporarily closed this morning. When we looked at the My Disney Experience app, we saw that a few other attractions were also closed.
At one point, in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog Dash, and Tower of Terror were all closed. As of 10:45AM, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster had reopened, but Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror were still closed. Later, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway joined the “temporarily closed” list.
In Magic Kingdom, Splash Mountain and Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress are closed.
Also in EPCOT, Living with the Land and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are closed.

UPDATE: As of 11:25AM, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Spaceship Earth, Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, and Carousel of Progress were all still temporarily closed.
So what does this mean? Well, in instances where multiple rides are down in one park, it could mean that other rides will have longer lines. It’s something you’ll want to be prepared for.

So how can you deal with these unexpected closures? Always have a backup plan handy with other attractions and experiences you’d like to do in Disney World. It’s also important to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to see when those rides are back up and running.
We’ll keep an eye out for more updates and let you know what we find.

Have you been to the parks on a day with multiple ride closures? How did that affect your plans? Let us know in the comments!

I’m beginning to think these temporary closures are more crowd control then ride breakdowns. My opion is they overbook the ride reservations then can’t move all of those people through the ride fast enough to accommodate the later reservations. I’m baking this on my experience this past Aug on Test Track. We had ride reservations for 8:30pm. We were almost to the loading zone at 8:/0, when the ride had technical problems & had to shut down. We waited until 9pm. There was a long line behind us and there was no way everyone was going to get on before the park closed. I think they simply claimed a problem and shut the ride down rather than even attempt to get through the line.
