9 Disney World Closures With No Reopening in Sight

We’ve said it before, but Disney World is constantly changing.

Magic Kingdom

No two visits are alike, and Disney does its best to keep things exciting and interesting for guests. But sometimes, that means having to close an attraction or restaurant in order to do a little bit of maintenance — or a complete overhaul! Whatever the reasoning, there are some Disney World closures that simply don’t have a reopening date in sight, so let’s check them out.

Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World Railroad

This iconic Magic Kingdom attraction closed in December 2018 in order for work to begin on TRON: Lightcycle Run. Unfortunately, almost four years later, the railroad remains closed — including all three train stations (Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland).

Train track progress!

Disney hasn’t shared an anticipated opening date, but we do know that TRON is scheduled to open sometime in spring 2023, so hopefully the Walt Disney World Railroad will be open around then too (or sooner!).

Tomorrowland Light & Power Co.

Another victim of TRON construction is Tomorrowland Light & Power Co., a merch store that often has futuristic, space-themed items.

We’re not sure when the work will be completed here, and in typical Disney fashion they’re keeping that secret for now — but stay tuned for updates!

Meet and Greets

Several meet and greets have yet to return in Magic Kingdom, including Enchanted Tales with Belle. Guests could meet Belle and help her tell the story of Beauty and the Beast. The meet and greet remains closed, with no end in sight.

Ariel’s Grotto is also still closed, so you won’t be able to interact with this mermaid princess for now. Luckily, Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid is still open — so you can follow Ariel along on that ride instead.

And, Pete’s Silly Sideshow has yet to reopen as well. You can usually meet Minnie, Goofy, Daisy, and Donald in the circus gear, but not at the moment.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow

Disney did announce that Pete’s Silly Sideshow would reopen “in the coming months,” but we haven’t heard anything since — so stay tuned!

Hollywood Studios

Fantasmic!

If you’ve been waiting for Fantasmic! to return to Disney World, you’re not alone. And although Disney did announce that the show would return later this year, we still don’t have an official return date yet.

We do know that Cast Member rehearsals have begun, though, so hopefully that means the end is near for this closure.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

This Hollywood Studios show — Voyage of the Little Mermaid — is still closed, and Disney hasn’t given any indications on when or if it might reopen.

Rumors have been swirling that the show could be closed for good, but so for nothing has been confirmed. We’ll be sure to update you if that changes!

Disney Resorts

Narcoossee’s

This table service spot at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has been closed since July, after Disney announced it would face a long refurbishment.

Narcoossee’s

No details have been shared about what all this refurbishment entails or what Narcoossee’s might look like once it reopens, but we’ll keep an eye out for the latest news.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach

Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is still closed with no word on when it might reopen, but in the meantime you can still visit Disney World’s other theme park — Typhoon Lagoon!
