5 Surprising Parts of Disney Genie+

Genie+ will launch in Disney World on October 19th! This new paid system will replace what used to be Disney’s FastPass+ program, offering guests a modified way to bypass the standby line on select rides and attractions.

Lightning Lane at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

There’s a lot about Genie+ that you’ve likely heard about by now, from pricing to the basic nuts and bolts features of the system. Beyond that, however, there are a few features that may surprise you!

You CAN hold multiple reservations at one time

One thing guests may not realize with Genie+ is that you can indeed hold multiple reservations at the same time. Disney hasn’t discussed this detail too much, and some guests may have believed you can only carry one reservation at at time.

Splash Mountain

This isn’t the case! As long as the reservation times are at least two hours apart, you may make a second Lightning Lane selection. Otherwise, you would need to wait until your current Lightning Lane reservation is redeemed before you can make a new selection.

Guests using DAS can make two advance reservations

Genie+ has built in features specifically for those guests using Disney’s Disability Access Service (DAS) program. Under Genie+, guests using DAS may make up to two advance selections. These reservations must be made at least two days before you plan on using them.

Lightning Lane at Jungle Cruise

You can only make reservations for each ride once per day

A not-so-pleasant surprise for some guests will be that, under Genie+, you can only make one Lightning Lane reservation per ride, per day. While you can make as many Lightning Lane reservations in one day as you can fit, you will not be able to re-ride the same attraction using Genie+.

We know you’ll want to ride Living With the Land as many times as possible…but you may only do so once per day with Genie+, and the rest of the time you have to wait in standby.

So, if your ultimate goal was to ride Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin as many times per day as possible, you can only do so once through Genie+, and the other times would be via standby.

You won’t be able to modify or cancel those select individual attractions!

While most rides are included with the purchase of Genie+, there are a select few rides that are not. These à la carte attractions are those high-demand rides like Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Keep in mind that you do not have to purchase Genie+ in order to make reservations for these select individual attractions.

Rise of the Resistance

If you choose to purchase a select individual attraction, it’s important to note that you CANNOT modify their 1-hour return window, nor can you cancel your reservation to receive a refund once your purchase is complete — so think carefully before you make that reservation!

There’s a FREE planning tool coming out soon, too!

Don’t forget that you don’t have to pay a separate fee in order to take advantage of some of Disney’s newest planning tools! Disney Genie is a complimentary feature that will also be released next week, located within My Disney Experience. This service is free to ALL guests.

Disney Genie seems to be full of neat planning tools for guests to use, offering completely customized itineraries based on real-time data and personal preferences. While you won’t be able to make Lightning Lane reservations with the free version of Disney Genie, you can look at forecasted wait times to plan your day in the park accordingly!

Disney Genie will also allow guests to place Mobile Orders for food, check current walk-up waitlist wait times for table service restaurants, as well as provide a virtual assistant to answer any questions you might have!

  1. Disney is becoming a money grubber. We will NOT purchase this service. It is not what Walt would have done. Why not drop the price to enter to $25.00 and go back to purchasing tickets for what you want to ride?

  2. Not being able to to adjust or return your lighting pass to special attractions is rather dirty pool. Issues and things pop up all the time on a Disney vacation and Disney isn’t going to allow any sort of refunds or even a rescheduling of the special lighting passes? That’s plain dirty for Disney.

  3. Not Individual Attraction Selections, but I’d try Lightning Lane @ least once to see how it turns out, though I’ve always missed the old paper FastPass. They were fun free collectibles.
