If you’re planning your first-ever trip to Disney World, getting tips from seasoned Disney World pros can be a lifesaver.

It’s fair to say that you can’t really understand everything that comes with a Disney World vacation until you actually do it. With that said, you can avoid tons of issues and make the most out of your trip with a little bit of planning guidance. In this case, we turned to our readers for some tips, and y’all did not disappoint!
We asked our readers on Facebook, “If you could give your first-time Disney self one piece of advice, what would it be?” Ya’ll had A LOT to say…
Reader Kerri hit us with a very hard truth: ” There is no tired like Disney tired. That Generic Disney Resort Room Bed is just as comfortable as your bed at home. After a loooong day in the Parks, you’ll sleep like a log.”
Unless you’re a naturally active person who walks double-digit miles every day, the amount of walking and emotional (and physical) roller coasters you’ll experience every day at Disney World will knock you on your behind by the end of the day. It doesn’t matter if you’re a toddler or in the prime of your life — Disney World is exhausting and you will feel the fatigue, guaranteed.

Which brings us to Reader Laura’s point: “Don’t get overwhelmed…breathe…take it all in…enjoy it! It goes fast! If you don’t get the ride or reservation for dining when you want it…pivot…you will get it, be a kid and have fun!“
It’s impossible to do everything in one trip at Disney World, but your first visit will tempt you to try just that. Not only will you fail, but you won’t have a good time in the process. It’s okay to take a moment and get those mental snapshots. The memories mean more than checking off boxes on a to-do list.
Reader Bruce added, “Don’t think you will be able to see it all in one trip. Take your time. Don’t push little ones too hard. Go back to the room and take a break if needed.” We totally agree.

Speaking of walking and going hard during a Disney day, Reader Lea wrote, “Don’t wear new shoes!! Make sure they are really broken in!!!”
Wearing non-broken-in shoes is a fast track to blisters. Buy your new shoes well in advance of your trip and break them in well before you go. Your feet will thank you.

Reader Rachel noted that you should be open to finding hidden gems, writing, “Don’t skip things just cause you think they’d be boring. Sometimes a change of pace is exactly what you need. Dark rides/shows are great for midday naps.”
We will always champion those “slow” attractions like the PeopleMover, Carousel of Progress, and Living with the Land. These are ironically some of our favorite rides — and they each have a unique Disney charm that you can’t get anywhere else.

When it comes to rides, Reader Greg wrote, “You will not get everything you want done in one day at a particular park. Prioritize, then see what else you can do.”

Ultimately, a bunch of the comments noted that you won’t be able to do everything during your first trip, so it’s important to do a bit of homework so that you have a list of priorities and “must-dos”.
Reader David summed it up well, writing, “Back to the first point for a minute. It’s your FIRST trip. Not your last one. You will most likely be back. Forget the FOMO, make anything you missed goals for the next trip.”
