If there’s any ride that we expect to look spectacular at night, it’s Disney World’s upcoming TRON Lightcycle Run.

Anyone who’s seen the ride in Shanghai Disney Resort or who’s just seen a TRON movie knows that lighting will be key in setting the scene for the attraction, particularly at night. Well, now we have a better idea of what that nighttime lighting will look like.
Walt Disney Imagineering shared some photos on Instagram of the first testing of the TRON ride’s lighting at night, reaching another milestone for the project.
Disney wrote: “This curved-wave structure serves as the Upload Conduit to the Grid, where guests, known as Users, will race beneath on Lightcycles as they begin their competition.”

The lighting team has programmed more than 1,200 light fixtures across the canopy’s surface and is now testing the system.

“The canopy and exterior plaza will be brought to life in the coming months as the project team continues uploading and integrating additional show elements,” Disney wrote.

Disney has not yet released an opening timeline for the new attraction, which is being built in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom. Ride testing has already started, including ride testing at higher speeds.

If you’re looking for something new to ride in Disney World, though, be sure to check out our coverage of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, which recently opened in EPCOT. Note that you can only ride via virtual queue or by purchasing the Individual Attraction Selection option for the ride. At the moment, both go quickly every day!
Or if you’re looking for a ride that’s a little less thrilling, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opened last year in the same park. You can ride this attraction by either waiting in a standby line or purchasing an Individual Attraction Selection to access it via its Lightning Lane.
