10 Halloween Horror Nights Rules Universal Is Enforcing in 2026

Who’s excited for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights??

Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween Horror Nights is Universal’s annual celebration of all things spooky, chilling, and downright scary. The separately ticketed event takes place at Universal Studios Florida on select nights during the Halloween season, with the first 2026 date scheduled on August 28th. Ready to experience all of the terrifying haunted houses, scare zones, exclusive merchandise, and jaw-dropping live entertainment the event has to offer? Make sure you’re prepared to follow these rules so you don’t miss out on the fun!

Let’s take a look at 10 Halloween Horror Nights rules for Universal’s 2026 event!

No Rain Checks, Returns, Or Refunds

Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event that takes place rain or shine. Every guest must have a valid ticket for the date they choose to attend, and there are no refunds or returns if you change your mind or are unable to make it after buying your ticket.

That means you’ll want to make sure your plans are finalized before you buy your tickets. Also, keep in mind that you’ll be locked into the date you buy for single-night tickets, regardless of the weather when the event date arrives!

Access to Parks, Attractions, and Entertainment May Be Restricted

Universal notes that the event dates, times, attractions, entertainment, and other experience details are subject to change without notice. That means access to parks, attractions, and entertainment may be restricted or unavailable due to capacity, closures, or other factors.

As is typically the case with theme park attractions, unexpected technical errors, capacity limits, or other unpredictable factors could mean that a particular attraction, haunted house, or show is unavailable for some or all of the event on the night you attend, so plan accordingly and prioritize your must-do attractions first!

No Free Self-Parking After 6 PM on Halloween Horror Nights Dates

Universal Orlando usually offers free self-parking after 6:00 PM, but this is NOT valid on Halloween Horror Nights dates. Some annual passholders may qualify for free or discounted parking, depending on the type of pass they have, but if you’re a regular ticket holder, you’ll have to pay for parking.

Regular self-parking is currently priced at $32 for prepaid parking or $35 if paid at the toll booth, so be sure to factor the cost into your budget if you plan to drive yourself to Halloween Horror Nights.

No Costumes/Costume Masks Allowed

Unlike at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World, where guests are allowed to wear a costume (with some restrictions), there are NO costumes or costume masks allowed for guests at Halloween Horror Nights.

Masquerade Dance With Death, HHN 2025

There are plenty of other ways to get in the Halloween spirit at HHN, so be sure to leave your costume at home — or save it for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, as long as it fits the guidelines!

Dress Code is Enforced

Speaking of clothing policies, Universal’s standard dress code policies are also enforced during Halloween Horror Nights. The dress code states that proper attire, including shirts and shoes, must be worn at all times.

The policy also prohibits any clothing likely to incite a disturbance or that has offensive language or content.

Code of Conduct

Just like the dress code, Universal’s standard code of conduct also applies during Halloween Horror Nights. The code of conduct is designed to keep the environment safe, secure, and pleasant for guests and it strictly prohibits activities including picketing, distributing literature, petitioning, soliciting, loitering, blocking entrances, exits or escalators, carrying weapons, physically or verbally threatening or harassing any person, and engaging in conduct that is disorderly, disruptive, or which may endanger others.

Be sure to review Universal’s full code of conduct on their website before attending the event if you have any questions about the full list of policies.

No Photos or Video Recording Inside the Haunted Houses

Guests are allowed to take photos and videos in scare zones, show areas, and throughout the park, but Universal typically prohibits photos and videos in the haunted houses. There are occasionally some exceptions for media events or other special circumstances, but in general, guests are not allowed to photograph or record inside the houses.

This policy is for the safety of both the guests and scare actors, so make sure you keep your cameras stowed once you’re inside a haunted house!

Smoking Allowed Only in Designated Areas

Universal policy states that smoking is permitted only in designated areas, and each park has one designated smoking area. In Universal Studios Florida, where Halloween Horror Nights is held, the smoking area is located near the park exit.

The policy also notes that e-cigarettes and vapes are treated the same as tobacco and are only permitted in designated smoking areas.

Prohibited Items

As with regular day guests, Halloween Horror Nights guests are also prohibited from bringing banned items to the event. Prohibited items include explosives, weapons, items that can be used as or have the appearance of a weapon, alcohol, marijuana, illegal items, glass, suitcases/bags with wheels, folding chairs, and large/hard-sided coolers.

Remember to check the full list of prohibited items on Universal’s website if you have any questions about what is restricted.

Recommended Age Restriction

The last item on our list is a recommendation rather than an official rule, but it’s still worth mentioning since the event can be a super scary experience compared to other Halloween parties around the Orlando theme parks! Halloween Horror Nights may be too intense for young children, and it isn’t recommended for children under the age of 13.

Look out for BIG scares!

Again, this is the one item on the list that’s just a guideline stated by Universal, rather than an official rule. But the recommendation is in place for a reason — HHN is SERIOUSLY scary — so be sure to consider this when deciding whether your child is ready for the experience!

We’ll continue to share more details about this year’s Halloween Horror Nights as they’re unveiled, so stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Halloween news and updates!
