6 Things I Wish I Knew Before Riding Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry at Epic Universe

Universal’s brand-new theme park, Epic Universe, officially opened on May 22nd, 2025, and by now, we’ve had a good amount of time to learn the ins and outs of this park — and its most popular rides.

Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry

One ride that seems to stand above the rest is Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. With frequent hours-long waits and the occasional bump in the road, we’re sharing all the things we wish we knew before riding Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry!

Pay attention in the queue

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: the queue for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is not to be missed on your first ride! There are SO many incredible details hidden throughout the line that really help transport you into this world.

It’s such an incredible queue, in fact, that sometimes when the ride goes down and is temporarily unavailable, Universal will still open the queue so that people can walk through and immerse themselves in the world. And, this is a great segue to our next point…

You might miss important storylines if you use Express Pass

We know we mentioned that the queue has some remarkable details, but it’s also got some important plot points and characters in it that you need to see to fully understand the ride.

If you use Express Pass, you miss the scene in Dolores Umbridge’s office, where you’re introduced to an important character from the ride. Without seeing this character in the queue, you might be confused when the character pops up in the ride!

Stay in your seat!

Cast Members have informed us on a few of our rides that there are sensors in the seats that can cause the ride to stop when triggered if someone is lifted out of their seat. We’ve also been told to keep both of our feet planted firmly on the ground for the same reason!

This is likely the reason that the “drops” on this ride (which were nowhere near as intense as Tower of Terror) have been reduced or eliminated. Folks were probably being lifted out of their seats and causing the ride to shut down due to the safety features.

There are bathrooms in the queue

We have good news and bad news. The good news is that there is a bathroom in the queue! The bad news is that you’ll probably need it because the wait times are often quite long for this ride — it’s consistently been the most popular ride in the park.

The bathrooms are by the family room, located by the lifts, just before you get to the last room to board the ride. This is closer to the end of the queue than the beginning, so keep that in mind if you need to go. The best plan is to always stop by the bathrooms before you get in line when possible!

Single Rider is a great option

We know, we know — this kind of contradicts what we said about going through the regular line on your first trip. But, if you really don’t care about seeing the line, Single Rider can be a great option when it’s available.

You’ll skip the full outside portion and go straight to the Metro-Floo, but keep in mind that your party will likely be split up when it comes to going on the actual ride — since that’s the whole point of the Single Rider line.

Your best bet is to ride at night

We’ve been keeping an eye on the wait times for this ride. They’re highest in the mornings and tend to taper off toward the end of the day, closer to when the park is going to close for the night. BUT, this isn’t always a safe plan, because we have seen the ride be listed “At Capacity” on a few evenings — meaning that the line has been closed to new guests since it’s full.

Wait times will likely drop in the evenings, but there’s always a chance that the ride could go down or hit capacity, so keep that in mind if you’re trying to guarantee a ride!
